That doesn't make any sense, though.
I don't see how my points about Alucard can't be considered those of an anti-hero, when the point that you just listed about Vegeta only show that he's anything but an anti-hero. Most people seem to think that an anti-hero is a villain, or a villain who becomes a hero. But neither of those are what define an anti-hero, the way I see it. Vegeta originally started out as a villain, and then, grudgingly at first, joined the other side (the "good" side), when Freeza came into the picture. If anything Vegeta would be the one who is more hard-edged than he is an anti-hero.
Its the same thing with Spike. As you said yourself, he is trying to go straight, and, overall, he is more of a "cool" type of character, than an anti-hero. I mean, when it comes down to it, he is the one who will usually do the right thing. He even has some sense of compassion for the lives of others.
As for Alucard, he's obviously not a villain, but he's definitely not a hero, either. He has absolutely no care for the lives of innocent people, and only takes pleasure in defeating his enemies in horrible ways. You said that when it comes down to it, he usually does the right thing, but please give me some examples from the series itself (and not the TV series, since that's not even canon), in which he does the right thing of his own will. And, the thing is, even if you do come up with some examples, if according to what you say is ture, then that also means that Vegeta, Spike, and more than half of the other characters mentioned on this threaRAB, do not qualify as anti-heroes, either.
