Favorite Animated Christmas Special?

Totally, dude!

"Christmas Time is Here" is a pretty simplistic and sappy song, but dadgum if I don't love it!

But yeah, I love the Grinch, I truly do, but I had to vote in with the Peanuts gang on this one. There's a sincerity to it that just hits me, even to this day.

Anyone ever see a Christmas special called Emmit Otter's Christmas Jug Band, or at least I think it was called that? I saw it last night, it wasn't bad but the "muppets" in the movie were kind of dull and there was too much singing to be fully enjoyable. I hate that about some movies/specials, too much singing and not enough story involved, even if the show I'm watching is a musical it annoys me to no end....I'm feeling bitter this morning.

I wish that poll was multiple choice! My favorite specials from the most wonderful time of the year are - How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Yogi's First Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, & Santa Claus is Coming Town just to name the Top 5.

A Charlie Brown Christmas has always been, and will always be my favorite animated christmas special. While it lacks the higher quality animation of more recent specials and doesn't have a particularly extravagent plot, it's heart and emotion is really unmatched in my eyes. The fact that it also is one of the few specials to use the original, religious meaning of Christmas in a way that isn't "in your face" is also welcoming, and I'm glad that it still is shown regularly on the holidays, within a climate that often is far less welcoming of non-secular media.

A close second would be How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Easily the best interpretation of any of Dr. Seuss's classic tales ever, and it's original songs are fantastic. Like Charlie Brown, it may not be technologically impressive by modern standards, but it's warmth and message make it stand out as a true classic.

I picked the Grinch.

I remember watching that every year that it was on tv and getting my mom to record it for me. I saw it on the DVD shelf a few weeks back, and picked that sucker up. I would go into detail, but it's the Grinch. How can you not love it?

I also bought Mickey's Christmas Carol. When I was five or six, I remember being really creeped out when Scrooge is walking home in the snow and then getting the house and being stalked by Jacob Marley (Goofy). Another scene that creeped me out later was when The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come (Pete) shows up and pushes Scrooge into his grave. Pete has always been a comical villain but this is the one time where he is genuinely creepy. Mickey's Christmas Carol also has historical meaning also as it is the first feature to have Alan Young voice Scrooge and the late Wayne Allwine to voice Mickey and it was Clarence Nash's last time voicing Donald Duck.

This may come as a surprise to many, but I don't really care much for Charlie Brown Christmas. Don't lynch me, it has been awhile since I've seen it, and it will require another look.

My most vivid memory of a christmas special I can recall was of Joker flying through a roof on a christmas tree. That made me believe in jesus.

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" is probably mine; it has a lot of sentimental reasons attached to it--my family likes to make it a point to watch this one together every year; even if my parents are busy with work or something someone will tape it to make sure we can all watch it together in the family room later. :)

Anyone here remember an obscure 1990 movie called "The Nutcracker Prince"? It was loosely based off the book by ETA Hoffmann, I do believe. I watched it endlessly when I was younger from a recording I had of it being shown on the Disney Channel. I bought the DVD a couple of years ago and while I now see it's not really anything groundbreaking, it's still something of an enjoyable trip down my childhood memories--the animation, while flawed in some places (especially the "Princess Pirlipat" story sequence), looks very nice and Disney-esque at times and I really liked the use of the original ballet's score; it led me to love the music on CD format years later even though I've still only seen the second act of the actual ballet.

The animated "Grinch" probably comes in close behind those two, and now that I think about it, it's been a long time since I've watched Mickey's Christmas Carol, so hopefully I'll be able to find it around again to see sometime.

I voted for The Grinch. It's my favorite Christmas special and I've watched it the most of any other Christmas special. My other favorites are Charlie Brown Christmas, and Hey Arnold's Christmas special.
