Popeye: While he eventually degenerated into a bungling everyman who ends up having to beat people up, his 30s incarnation is definitely one to admire. Even with his salty demeaner and crass mannerisms, there is a prevailing sense of justice and honor in his actions when he is affronted with amorality. His attraction to a character like Olive Oyl adds to his already humble personality.
Hank Hill While he has become a bit too much of a "voice of reason" in later seasons, he was always to be the ipitomy of practicality. He always struck me as a very down to earth individual who tried to do what he saw was the right thing to do. Even though his prejudices and conservative nature led to some problems, he never let his ignorance get the best of him and is humble enough to realize it. A flawed, yet good natured character that I can very much relate to.
Krazy Kat: Alright, I'm cheating a bit with this one since 90% of the cartoons were complete crap and many of the 30s theatricals changed the character considerably. Nonetheless, I find him/her to be a character I can find a real closeness towards. Even though he/she is an extremely naive, there is a real purity in the character that diffuses much of the malice brought upon him/her by that villain Ignatz. This is a character that can find good in anyone and the constantly failing efforts to woo Ignatz is both endearing and adorable.
Luffy: Alright, these will sound pretty corny but here I go. Luffy has a strong child-like purity and naivety that I can't help to find appealing and a bit of envy. Luffy, despite his uncouth behavior, is able able to come accross as both a gentleman and an individual who is oozing with ambition. His undying loyalty and compassion toward his freinds (which is thankfully reflected back) and jolly demeaner kept me rooting for him when situations called for a bit more rough and tumble approach. His almost overwhelming desire for fun, adventure, and good food kept the proceedings both fun and exciting, int its own outrageous, over-the-top way.
