There have been countless animated works over the years, many of which contained numerous characters. However, which animated character is your all-time favorite? Please limit your selection to a single character, and be sure to explain why you selected the character that you did. I realize that it?s a difficult thing to decide upon, and that many people will likely select iconic characters such as Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse, but I believe sticking to one character is the best way to yield revealing discussions. Also, please don?t be afraid of discussing one another?s answers.
My favorite animated character is Cadpig. An unorthodox choice, to be sure, but I?ve always found her to be extremely adorable in both appearance and personality. Her passive-aggressive nature and her new-age demeanor really made her an intriguing character; this allowed her to have some of the best lines in the script, whether she was causing conflict or resolving conflict. I also loved the voice that Kath Soucie provided for her; she handled the character perfectly and made her truly memorable.
I?m looking forward to hearing what your favorite character is, but if you don?t have one, you?re more than welcome to share your thoughts on some of the selections that have already been made.
Marvin Martian:marvin: - The 1st original best alien character which I love all his shorts, especially Baby Looney Tunes & Duck Dodgers which I didn't know his helmet is based off of the Roman god Mars.
Pete - He's my favorite being the first evil animated cat villain for Mickey Mouse which I love him in all his roles in the Mickey/Donald shorts, Mickey's Christmas Carol, The Prince & the Pauper, Runaway Brain, Ducktales, Goof Troop, & Bonkers.
Goofy - I love him for being the dumb goofball which he cracks me up when bad luck comes to get him which I love his roles in Goof Troop,Bonkers,The 2 Goofy Movies,Mickey's Christmas Carol & the old Goofy shorts along with Donald Duck/Mickey Mouse.
Garfield - He's the best for being the fat, lazy, gluttonous cat for bashing Odie, hating Mondays, trying to eat birds, & squashing spiders.
Ren & Stimpy - They're my most favorite hilarious animated pair ever which they're wacky, hilarious, & crazy together along with Stimpy being Ren's bashing victim for the day.
M.Ress - She's the 1st sexiest animated catgirl character ever which I've always loved her sexy flirty feline voice.
Duckman - He's my most favorite duck character for being the funny loudmouth jerk on the outside & a good father to the kids except for Bernice which I love it when those two always go at it.
Mr.Bumpy - He's so funny & disgusting sometimes which I love his hilarious weird antics with his pals Squishy & Molly which Jim Cummings did a wonderful performance for a claymation character.
The Tick - He's my most favorite idiotic superhero character which I love his dumbness especially when he thinks the Santa suited bank robber was the real Santa Claus & when he says "SPOOON," pure comedy gold.
Ace Ventura - He's so hilarious in his cartoon who's the best animated Jim Carrey character ever which I love his hilarious wacky antics & making his butt talk especially with him teaming up with the Mask was so funny as well.
Donkey Kong - He rocks for being my most favorite game character made into a CGI series which I love his kicking butt at the Kremlings & his songs.
Pepper Ann - She's my most favorite girl heroine along with her friends Nicky & Milo and she's funny & wacky when she deals with everyday life especially playing her favorite arcade game Crunch Pod & having a crush on Craig the school hunk for all girls' crushes.
Cow & Chicken - They're my next favorite animated cartoon pair which they're so wacky, zany, & hilarious together especially when Cow becomes Supercow which Charlie Adler do great voice acting them.
Coach Mc.Guirk:coach: - He's the funniest for being the lousy soccer coach but I love his parts when he gets drunk while dating the hot school nurse, gets that stupid jerk from the pleachers when he snuck in his car, & bashes that rotten little brat Fenton which was the highlight.
Danny Fenton/Danny Phantom - He's the best which he kicks butt at the ghost bad guys, has a sweet relationship with Sam & has cool ghost-busting parents.
Butters - He's the best character ever in South Park for being cute/innocent/naive & gullible which he rocks for saving Imaginationland, refusing to take part in the Britney Spears scheme, & his YouTube music video was so cute & hilarious from today's new episode, but I feel sorry for him to have crappy jerk parents sometimes.
Samurai Jack - He's so awesome which I love his design which he's the best samurai character ever for beating many tough foes & wanting to destroy Aku in order to get back home.
Chowder - He's so silly & funny for being dumb & gluttonous especially when random things come out of his mouth & when he drives poor Schnizel crazy at the bank which is so hilarious.
Lina Inverse - She's the best sorceress ever which she's selfish, loud, caring,& gluttonous which are the best things about her & along with her friends & her rivals Martina & Naga.
Ayane - I love Ayane's High Kick alot, she rocks like all tough girl heroines when she's a wrestler & now a kickboxer which makes it awesome having to challenge the top kickboxing contender to not be expelled for life.
Mantaro/Kid Muscle - As much as I love Ultimate Muscle, he rocks since he's so hilarious for being cowardly but has courage for going up against powerful foes to save the world & his farting is disgusting but hilarious.
Monkey D.Luffy - As a big fan of One Piece, he rocks with his goal to become King of the Pirates and always wanting adventure, finding the best crewmates, battling crazy villains, & his Gear powers are amazing during his awesome battle with Lucci.
L - He's an awesome hero in Death Note, for his creepy freaky appearance, his craving for sweets, and that he's the best intelligent detective in the world to take down Kira(Light).
In the episode Silence, it's very sad when he dies, but his replacements Mello & Near will be the next to crush Kira(Light) in the end.
Sorry in advance to be a pain about this, but there is no conceivable way that I could possibly elect just one character as my all-time favorite. I've seen far too many cartoons over the years, and in each medium or genre I've latched onto different characters, so it would be impossible for me to nominate a single favorite cartoon character. Nonetheless, I'll try to narrow my list down to a treasured few.
Daffy Duck-in many respects, he's my alter ego. The original insane, hyperactive, demented-but-brilliant cartoon anarchist who can always be counted on to shake things up and just make you laugh. His only close candidate in this league is Bugs Bunny himself, but for me, the little black duck edges him out. Don't get me wrong, I love Bugs too, but over the years he's become too much of a suave character, to the point where for a long time, all he ever did was lean back with his eyes half shut and deliver clever asides. To me, the perfect essence of Daffy was the way he was portrayed in Space Jam. Yeah, I know, Space Jam was little more than a 90-minute Nike commercial, but Daffy here was the perfect mixture of the 40's 'mischievous lunatic' Daffy and the 50's 'egotistical jerk' Daffy. If Daff could be rendered like this all the time, then I'd have a candidate for the perfect toon.
Slappy Squirrel-again, I love Slappy because she's another extension of myself. She's cranky, jaded and has an aversion to all things syrupy sweet, but despite all that, she's still fun to be around. Even though slowed down by age and having "seen it all" almost to the point of boredom, she's still got it. Another reason I love Slappy is because she's a female character who in her respective universe is on par with the likes of Bugs and Daffy. It's a pity there weren't any actual Looney Tunes stars like her.
Yakko, Wakko & Dot (group characters count as one, IMO)-What a brilliant concept: a trio of crazy, Marx Brothers inspired cartoon kids who drive everyone around them almost as nuts as they are. And each of them has their own sharply defined personality and role within the group. My personal favorite: Dot, "the cute one".
Sam & Max-another delightfully loopy-but-brilliant animated duo. Their razor sharp hyper-kinetic wit and boundless anarchic energy are the perfect harmony of edge and craziness. Sam and Max are among the few cartoon creations that I'm truly jealous of their creator, Steve Purcell, for having invented them instead of me.
Kim Possible-yes, I said Kim Possible. I know KP gets a lot of hate from viewers for being an annoyingly perfect Mary Sue, but to me that's part of her charm. She can kick formidable butt and look fabulous while doing it. And all without a single superpower to her name. (And coming from me, a guy who loves crazy superpowers, that's quite a compliment.)
And honorable mention goes to all of my favorite (and grossly underused, IMHO) cartoon MILFs, er, um, attractive moms: Mrs. Dr. Possible (Kim Possible), Sarah Dubois (The Boondocks), Lila Test (Johnny Test) and Louisa Roberts (Out of Jimmy's Head-OK, that's technically not a cartoon, but the character was rendered as a cartoon character in the epiosde "Princess", so that sort of counts.)
I think my ultimate is Sabastian from the Little Mermaid. I mean he's just cartoon GOLD. I just love him, it's hard to explain, his character is just perfect and he always makes me laugh. Other faves are Yakko, Michelandgelo (sp?) TMNT, Max from Sam and Max, Harley Quinn, Earthworm Jim, Johnny Bravo, Lumiere (Beauty and the Beast), Shaggy, Baloo and sooo many more!!
My current favorite - Rufus the Noop from "The Dreamstone". He loves to daydream and sometimes, it gets him into trouble. I can't help but think that he has ADD or something.
I for one am a fan of Goofy. I like how he portrayed as a laidback, simple-minded bufoon, but he does bring a smart respone what others say, and his surrounding at hand. Sort of reminds me of myself.
Although, I have millions. I'll have to limit it to the canine-lagomorph duo.
Sam & Max have always delighted me with their sharp wit and loopiness - no matter where they are, whether it's the comics or even the games made by Tell Tales (What LucasARTS game? j/k I love them in there too). While they look like they'll appeal to kids young of age, they have a certain edge to them without being overly dark and stuff; not to mention how crazy Max is. Course, Sam is the opposite of Max, but they work together so well. Sam is the "good" cop; Insightful, resourceful, and gullible (see ep. 4 season 2 of the Tell Tales Games XD). Max is the rabbit-thing to tear things in apart (though not on screen XD). I can safely say that both of them are a lot like me in a lot of ways. The outer is Sam, the inner is Max. All is Max! >=O All hail the lagomorph!
Some others are Daffy Duck, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman, Goofy, Toph, Kenshin Himura and Luffy's Straw Hat Crew (includes Luffy, himself). I'll update this post for my reason for each of them tomorrow. But, for now...*retreats*
I have mixed thoughts on her. I understand that her perfection is one of the driving points behind her character, as she “could do anything”, but I believe that she was always handled with kid gloves. I fervently enjoyed the series, don’t get me wrong, but it seemed like she was lacking in substantial flaws. I concede that she did have some flaws, but they were typically clich? and have been done in just about every show with female main characters. I realize that I’m beating a dead horse, since Silverstar already addressed the complaints when he made his post, but I believe some of those complaints are valid. Regardless, I still consider Kim Possible to be an interesting character.
Aside: Despite the fact that Cadpig is my favorite character, The Huntsman remains one of my favorite characters as well; that’s the reason I have the username that I do. I just wanted to explain that. I’m referring to the Freakazoid character, not the AD:JL character.
Re-awakened in the 90's in BTAS, made better in TNBA and perfected during the JLU and beloved in Batman Beyond...plus the several movies made in between puts him over the top of all the rest.
However, the classics like Looney toons, Popeye, etc. will always hold a special place in my heart.
Way too many to name all of them, but here's a good chunk of them. (only the first two are ranked. The rest is just rambling off favorites).
Daffy Duck-I actually like the greedy version just as much as the screwball version, btw.
Bugs Bunny- Inarguably the greatest animated character ever created, but he has to get 2nd place here.
Sylvester
Woody Woodpecker
Tom
Foghorn Leghorn
T.A's Spike
Wile E. Coyote
Popeye the Sailor
Famous Studios' Wolfie Wolf
Donald Duck
Goofy
Fox & Crow
I would have to say Double D form Ed Edd n Eddy. EEnE has been just about my favorite show since I was about 10 and I think that I am very much like him (only I am not such a neat freak).
Bugs Bunny. Ever since I used to watch Looney Tunes when I was barely even a kid, Bugs was always my favorite character, and after more than a decade my opinion still stands. Bugs is one of the funniest and likeable cartoon characters ever and he still holds up over all these years.
I really have to dispel the Mary Sue aspect. Some of my favorite points of her character are that she as a girl puts up with Ron often losing his pants, is both tormented by and overbearing to her brothers and has tiffs with Bonnie.
Oh, pardon me. I wasn?t aware that dealing with obnoxious brothers and a mean cheerleader provided an appropriate balance for a character who tends to save the world without getting scratched and proves to be more effective than police and military organizations. As I?ve said, Kim?s flaws were clich?. I consider myself a fan of the series, and I once defended Kim from people who said she was too perfect, but my opinion evolved.
