Favorite animated 'A Christmas Carol' adaptation?

Long before the 1983 Mickey's Christmas Carol short, there was a record album version made by Disney in the late 1970's with 15 page storybook to follow along with the record. This was offered with the "Walt Disney Christmas" mail order record album TV offer (which I wish was seen on one of the 1970's/1980's TV commercial complimations and/or YouTube).

> The Giant (from Mickey and the Beanstalk...I think...) <

Yep, that's the giant.

And how nice to know he survived his fall from the beanstalk- he was a likable guy.

Since my favorite favorite adaptation, Muppet Christmas Carol, isn't up there, I went and voted for my next-favorite, Stingiest Man in Town.

I like Mickey's Christmas Carol for sentimental reasons, as it was the first adaptation of that story that I'd seen. But its too short for me now, and doesn't impact as much. Yes, the scene with Mickey's Bob Cratchit laying Tiny Tim's crutch on his tombstone is sad, but it doesn't bring a tear to my eye the way Kermit's Bob Cratchit does with his speech about "meetings and partings", and the shot of Tiny Tim's crutch, scarf and hat sitting on the empty chair by the fireplace.

Normally I don't like animated versions of the Dickens novel because they tend to be severe bastardizations of the original work (Muppet Christmas Carol and the Tim Curry version comes to mind). However, there is a special place in my heart for Mickey's Christmas Carol. Not only was it my first exposure to the whole Christmas Carol story, but the fact that it was surprisingly dark for a Disney special! The scene with Scrooge walking home alone on the dark street on Christmas Eve seemed pretty creepy like you know something spooky was about to happen. Very good job done by the Disney animators for that one. The second part I liked was Scrooge about to fall into his hell grave with Pete laughing maniacally all the way. That scene actually freaked me out as a kid next to the Sorceror's Apprentice.

Every Christmas, CBC Canada always plays this special along with How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Good stuff! :)

IIRC, he survived the fall in the original cartoon too---his snoring, snoozing form was used to power that whole carnival Mickey, Minnie and the King go to at the end :-)

Um, sorry but no. The scene you just mentioned is actually from Disney's Brave Little Tailor short, which starred Mickey as said brave little tailor.

^ This is true. Princess Minnie and her royal Dad are not in the 'Jack + Beanstalk' cartoon; it's heroes are Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and the singing Magic Harp.

Maybe because it's live action, and I included it on my 'Favorite Christmas Carol (Live-Action) adaptation?' thread down at the Entertainment Board part of this site where it better belongs?

Mickey's Christmas Carol. One of the best Christmas specials ever, and one of my favorite Mickey cartoons.
Plus, Willie the Giant's scene had some really good animation.

I love Mickey's Christams Carol the most but I also love the Muppet's version and the Animaniacs episode.:anime:

Mr. Magoo's is still the best!
Well written. Great vocal performaces. Top score. Can't be beat.
It was also the FIRST animated Christmas special made for TV - 1962.
It was so popular, they eventually based a TV series on it!

If it was on TV more regularly, I bet it would be the top choice.
Shame it has fallen out of broadcast favor.

I really like the Richard William's/Chuck Jones version and I also really like Mickey's Christmas Carol.
I dunno if this counts but I also love the Muppet Christmas Carol :D

If I remember the Fun and Fancy Free bit that I watched correctly, Willie does survive, but not in the way listed here.
After the tale ends, Willie could be seen wandering around lifting up roofs of houses looking for Mickey.

Gotta go w/ the Mouse. This was a childhood fave of my mine. I used to have a vhs copy of it but that was decades ago (I'm old). I haven't seen that short film in over 20 yrs. Any chance it's on dvd? If so I never bothered to look for it.

i recall the program was grouped together w/ other wintery shorts:
Pluto vs. Chip & Dale (in Mickey's Christmas tree)
Donald vs. Huey, Dewey, & Louie (snowball fight)
Goofy's All-Star Winter Sports

man these are awesome toons...must find them on dvd asap!

Mickey's Christmas Carol is on Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume II and Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse. I'm not sure if either are still available for purchase.

It's also available in the "Classic Holiday Stories" DVD which also has the Pluto short you were talking about and "The Small One".
