Fat burning exercises for the Gym?

Since college started and I haven't had time to go to the gym, I've begun to notice myself gaining a few pounds and putting on some fat. What are some fat burning exercises I can do at the gym? And what are some (nutritionally sound) diets that work?

Ps: I'm willing to go to the gym. I dont need the easy way out, or fad diets... I want to do this the right way.
