I checked side affects of E-Mycin. Rash, eczema and uticaria are listed as adverse reactions. Overgrowth of nonsusceptible bacteria and fungi are listed as well.
Acetaminophen( component in Percocet) can have rash and uticaria as adverse reactions too

I would seek a second opinion to see about getting answers to your problems. Do you have a family doctor away from school or are you located near a teaching hospital?

Erythromycin allergy is unlikely, although you could be reacting to one of the inert ingredients, like a dye or filler. Was it a generic drug? Sometimes generics are more highly allergenic due to the cheaper inert ingredients used.

I don't know about the Percs, again it could be a dye or filler. I know you can't take Perc if you're allergic to Tylenol.

You could still be having symptoms because, even though the "fuel" for the fire is gone, you still have all those smoldering embers to deal with. Does that make sense?

I can understand why they checked you for an autoimmune disease, your symptoms sound like an autoimmune problem. With your fever, lower back and knee pain, it could be Ankylosing Spondylitis. (AS is less likely if you're female) Make sure one of the blood tests they ran included a HLA-B27 assay.

Considering the mysterious nature of your symptoms and their severity, I would suggest you see a Rheumatologist to be evaluated for a possible inflammatory disorder. If it is AS, it's important that you start physical therapy right away, before permanent fusing of the lower spine begins.

Here's an info page on Ankylosing Spondylitis: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ankylosingspondylitis.html

Yeah, that makes sense about the possible allergic reaction still causing problems.

I went to my doctor at home yesterday. He ran a ton of bloodwork--and I go back in 2 weeks to get the results! Hopefully he can give me some answers! I will definitely bring up that test...THANKS so much!!

Hi justliveyalife,
This is my experience with prednisone. Everytime I have had to take it, it makes my legs feel heavy and its hard to walk. My knees and my lower back also hurt. If you are still taking it, you might ask your Dr. about taking a diuretic. They always helped me. Usually, prednisone will help with rashes so you may have had a reaction from another drug. Hope this helps. God Bless You and Yours Today and EveryDay precious49

Yeah, I went to my doctor today. They ran a lot of bloodwork and hopefully I'll find something out the week after xmas!

I went to my doctor back at home yesterday. He ran a ton of bloodwork. I'm also taking Celebrex now to help with the pain. I go back in 2 weeks to get the results.

I don't know why prednisone was prescribed the first time--but my doctor told me that it was normal. I have taken prednisone before, for an upper respiratory thing, and didn't have any sort of rash. I've taken tylenol all my life, so I'm definitely not allergic to it.

I will just have to wait and see what the results say I suppose. Hoepfully I get some answers and not just "well it has to be an allergic reaction." B/C I honestly don't think it's an allergic reaction.

If you have an autoimmune disorder, I would think the Prednisone would have suppressed the symptoms. When my mother is having an RA flare-up, she is put on Prednisone. I wonder too, if the prednisone might have something to do with the rash?
As long as you are checking side effects, check the ones out for prednisone. Are you taking any other steroids?

Prednisone can cause muscle weakness and osteoporosis as well as increasing your risk for infections. It also has potassium wasting effects. Also, don't stop prednisone suddenly. You need to be tapered off.
Why was it prescribed in the first place? I had to have my wisdom teeth surgically removed and didn't have prednisone afterwards.

E-mycin gives me a rash like you described, I always get it a day or 2 after I finish the course. I'm also allergic to penicillin, it's very common. Prednisone is only used here (Australia) with extreme caution. I can't imagine why it would be used for teeth extraction. It has many side effects, some of them very serious, one of them being aching joints and muscles. Celebrex can also cause aching joints and muscles. All the best, hope you get it sorted soon.
