Hi im looking into buying a 2005 GTO after i graduate from basic training and than tech school. Should be around Decemberish, im currently under my parents insurance. My mom called the insurance company today and they said it would be around $2500($210 a month) a year for full coverage which is what i would have to get since i'll be getting a loan. My biggest question is that the lady said he will have to renew his license and insurance in Missouri (my dream base). My insurance will have to be renewed since i'll be getting a new drivers license in Missouri. But do you really have to get a new drivers license for each state a military member is stationed in? I've always thought it was exempt and that all you had to do was keep your home state were you have your already valid drivers license valid. Any help would be appreciated.

I never did. I was born in Wichita Kansas and served in the marines. This was over a decade ago but Kansas had a provision where as a member of the military I could renew my Lic. via the mail. They would send a sticker that went on the back of my existing license. Now I did own property in Kansas and did not use my parents address. It may have changed but sounds to me like your insurance person may not know much about the military.

As long as you are active duty you can have a vehicles registered in Minnesota and a driver license from Texas if you want to but they cannot expire. Everywhere I went I just waited until it was about to expire and just registered my car or got my driver license in the state I was in but ironically the PCS normally coincided with the expiration of one or the other. The key is they can't be expired and you can do what the previous response said and renew by mail from Kansas or just get one in Missouri and be done with it. Missouri requires emission inspection stickers too so be ready for that. You will have to be insured for the state you are operating the vehicle in though.
