I absolutely don't think Harry Potter contains any literature. They are boring fanfiction. I don't like it because nearly all the book are repeating the same routine. Getting out from the dursley, going to school and evil stuff , Voldemort coming back BLA BLA BLA!!!!
Wasting my time. The adventures in Harry Potter are not fun, adventures lock in a damn school.

The only worth reading authors are like:

J R R Tolkien: The Fantasy Lord, didn't made as much money as Hairy Potter because it isn't fanfiction. It is for readers that are looking for true literature.

Robert Jordan: Makes fantasy a true wonder and he had created a more fascinating and colourful epic world than Rowling boring, dull Hogwarts.

George R.R. Martin: An authors that has won several awards including Hugos, Locus, and Bram Stoker. Awesome!!!!!
Great imagination. An American Tolkien.

C.S. Lewis: Greatest children's fantasy literature writer.

David Eddings: The greatet questy adventure books that I have ever seen!!!

Philip Pullman: A very original writer with a world different from many other authors. terrific imaginations.

Ursula K le Guin: Books that has a classical texture that I love so much. Receive Gandalf Grand Award, an high award for fantasy.

Other good authors that i would like to recommend are like:
Roger Zelazny, Robin Hobb, Lloyd Alexander, Tad Williams, and those authors with Newberry Awards like Susan Cooper and authors like T. H. White for those wonderful Arthurian tales.

If you have any good authors, you may list them down.

good luck and thanks!!!

Well, JK Rowling's ideas may not be origional, but seriously I have to admit that she does know how to write an engrossing story.

And to answer your question, I would recommend Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver.

And yes, Tokien is a marvellous fantasy author. He's basically invented his own mythology, his own magical races, fictional lands etc...

What a fertile imagination he had!

Well, I do have to admit, when I started reading Harry Potter, I was disappointed. The beginning was so slow and boring. I thought it was supposed to be exciting. So, I didn't read it for at least two years. Then, I started over. I read through the beginning. It got more exciting, and I began to like the book more and more. I love the movies though. You should watch them if you haven't. The books aren't as exciting because they are written in a different way. Rowling is English, so she writes differently. Same with the Narnia series. It's a great story, but it just drags on and on. I love the movies, though.

I would suggest you read Magyk. It is a great book. Oh, and Inkheart. They both are wonderful books. I think you will like them.

It seems like this question was mainly posted to talk about your hatred towards Rowling.
Well, I am a Harry Potter fan and I don't find it boring. And I believe that the books are NOT repeating the same stuff. My opinion.
Oh, and I must say that Harry Potter is NOT fanfiction. It wasn't written based on the author's dream. *coughcoughmeyercough*
Harry Potter has a full and MEANINGFUL plot.

And, regarding your question:

I like Eoin Colfer. The Artemis Fowl series author. It's quite a unique series, with the main character being so villainous and all that.
