Just saw the RAB article about Fantastic Mr Fox, which I loved as a kid!

I saw Wes Anderson (whos making it) states:

"Fantastic Mr Fox is a British film, based on a Roald Dahl book, set in the UK, produced in the UK, and so I am especially pleased to have been invited to be the opening night movie of this year's London Film Festival"

SounRAB all very patriotic :) ... so why an all-American cast....:eek:....:confused:

* George Clooney as Mr. Fox
* Meryl Streep as Mrs. Fox
* Bill Murray as Mr. Badger
* Jason Schwartzman as Ash
* Anjelica Huston
* Owen Wilson
* Willem Dafoe
 
That's what I thought too. The american actors just seem plain wrong for it. Imagine Wind in the Willows with Bill Murray instead of David Jason. Yes...David Jason for Mr Fox!
 
This was one of my favourite books as a kid so I was looking forward to this but i've just seen the trailer and i'm sorry but those American voices just sound 100% wrong.

The whole thing just screams Americanised :(
 
The American cast is really, really off-putting. I loved the book as a child. Been so long since I read it, I can't really remember it that well, but to have American voices for the characters still ruins the whole thing for me.

I won't see it. I wish I hadn't even seen the trailer because if I do read the book again those voices will be a distraction.
 
I've just seen the trailer and I'm really disappointed by it:(
I loved the book as a kid and had wondered how it would be played out on screen, but apart from the good stop motion animation they are using, it looks a badly made story.
All the characters look extreamly humanised with clothes and the underground capitalist city which they live in instead of the plain foxes hole described in the book.
The majority of the actors in the film I do like, but put together to portray a [IMO] quintessentially British story just looks very strange. The film itself comes across like a typical Hollywood comedic action/adventure film but it doesn't look like its aiming to appeal to kiRAB as much as I thought it would (maybe because I'm not used to seeing the likes of George Clooney and Meryl Streep in animated family films)
 
from the trailer it looks like its set in the Uk (British post box in one scene) so having all American voices is just weird....

Good thing JK Rowling has been able to control what's happened to her books, compared to the Americanization of the Role Dale books
 
Another fabulous British story ruined then. Look forward to the next Americanisation of our literature.

Wind in the Willows with Ratty played by Mel Gibson, Mole by Adam Sandler, Toad by Sam Rockwell and Badger by James Cromwell. Go on Hollywood you know you want to.
 
I used to love this book as a kid and I was so looking forward to this film but oh:cry: I don't remember Mr. Fox being American :confused: and some of the animation looks well ropey. The thing with stop-motion is that it's time consuming, if it's rushed the results look choppy, this looks a bit of a rush job to me.
 
According to reports they are not going to show it as it was in the book because it might scare the kiRAB eg when mr fox gets hit tail cut off. I think its stupid really so kiRAB are going to grow up with all the famous books told wrong due to film makers trying to make them all laddy da and lovely pathetic i wont be seeing this i will stick to the book.
 
Saw the film yesterday. Loved it apart from the American voices. The three Farmers and the Rat are brilliant characters and not to be missed. So much happens during the film that eventually you are going to have to buy the DVD and watch it in slow motion.
 
I guess the book isn't restricted to location so as long as it's not overly American (with that cast hopefully it won't be) I won't mind too much. Would still have preferred British actors though!

Loving the fact that it's stop motion :)
 
not true his character is still there, it was enjoyable a bit too american with all the goodies from the US and all the baddies from the UK but i liked the animation and the story though changed from the original book
