Fanboys - Star Wars related comedy

I have just finished watching a new comedy called Fanboys. It is about a group of frienRAB that travel across America to steal a screener of Episode 1.

It is quite crude in places, but still quite amusing & would only appeal to those that are into Star Wars. It also stars Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) & Ethan Suplee (My Name is earl) as well as Carrie Fisher, William Shatner, Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith.

from what i've read its a cop out film that is patronizing to its target audience. but i guess someone likes it, i still have it on rental queue.

I enjoyed it as its your typical Road Trip sort of film but with the sci-fi edge. I know it was delayed for ages as I think it was made about 2 or 3 years ago!

Given that both the writer and the director are both colossal SW fanboys, I find it hard to understand the 'patronising' accusation. That said, it's hardly highbrow stuff. An underwhelmed film, but some amusing moments and cameos.
Yeah. There was a huge argument over the cancer sub-plot between director and studio. Weinstein took the finished film off the director, and had it reshot it without it. It tested worse than with it in, and there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to get it restored. Eventually director Kyle Newman won the battle, and it was released a few months back pretty much intact.

So.... Finally got to see all the way through (having dipped in and out for a few days).

I'm a 100% dyed in the wool Star Wars fan, as is my o/h.

I take back my faint praise above. We thought Fanboys was kinda crap, and really not anywhere near as amusing as it needed to be. It failed to be geeky enough for real-life SW fanboys/girls, and funny enough for anyone expecting an actual comedy.

The only chucklesome moments to my were the Carrie Fisher (the 'I love you gag' was great) and Shatner cameos, and the last line of the film.

All in all... pretty weak and disappointing stuff.

So, Mixtar... What did you think of the film then? ;)

I agree that the film had real heart, I just wish it had had a good enough script to back the obvious affection for fandom.

All IMO, of course.
