Family Guy without Seth McFarlane?

Ok, I find it stupid Fox is gonna go through with this. So without Seth, that would also mean voice recastings of all his characters? This writers strike just keeps on affecting everything.

It didn't hit me at first that he actually voices several main characters. He probably isn't responsible for a large amount of the writing on the current show, but the voices are crucial. How the heck are they going to do this? Re-casting Peter, Stewie, and Brian is a tall order. And that's not even all of them. Quagmire is next in the hierarchy, and then the list just goes on and on...

I would assume he's still done voices for a few more episodes, because voices are some of the first things they do, I think...

Brace yourselves for another John K verses Nick situation. Too bad. Things were going so well for that show.

Hopefully whatever was "near completion" had all the original voicing and stuff in tact, and the only reason it wasn't finished was because of ADR and last minute cutaways. I really hope this doesn't spell the end of the series, or Seth's involvement.

Yeah, as long as they stick with the "almost completed" episodes it should barely be noticable. More likely it was just a few last-minute cutaways and extra ADR that needed to be done. It could make for an interesting game of 'spot the replacement voice'.

Though once they get through those episodes and if the strike continues, it could be a train wreck.

It's not going to work. No matter what you think of MacFarlane, his vocal inflections and tone on each character he does is like 98% of what makes them funny, not what they say. That little improv stammer he has whenever some of the characters talk is hilarious, and no one else would be able to pull that off.

I'm more worried about the prospect of Seth not coming back at all after the strike because of this. I can see them airing the three not quite finished, but managable episodes with little new stuff added last minute (they're going to have to make due with the raw unfinished project). But I can also see Seth leaving in a huff, and the show going down the same road Ren and Stimpy did when John K was fired.

This strike is going to be hell on everyone, except the blood sucking ghoul studio heads that started it.

Wow this is really going to suck. How the hell is FOX going to recast Peter, Brian and Stewie with out people noticing? Thats like recasting The Simpson's, people just won't accept this! I'd hate to say it, but this just might be the end of Family Guy.

This will have to be watched very closely. It could go so many ways, all of them bad. I have to wonder what the show's 'loyal' fans will do. Will they tune out and support the original staff or will they just continue to lapp it up?

If this sticks, it seems more likely than not to me that FG will slide into generic mediocrity. Lately the series has been hit or miss to begin with, and you sure can't remove a major factor like Seth and expect things to stay the same. So if this lasts, I'd rather see FG end before too long than see it go on to become the new Simpsons.

I honestly don't think the fan base will notice. On average, they think EVERYTHING the show does is great. They'll probably just complain about the voices briefly and still say it's fine.
In that way, perhaps it would be becoming The Simpsons....

Goodbye Family Guy. It was nice knowing ya. American Dad too.

Someone just give the damn writers what they want and lets avoid this nonsense. If Family Guy was to continue without Seth I can easily see it lasting perhaps two episodes and then being cancelled. Even more so than John K was important to Ren and Stimpy, Seth IS Family Guy. You lose him and you lose the show. As much as I love the show I have no intention whatsoever of watching the series without Seth. It'll be a damn trainwreck and I think most fans realize that. Give them more credit than that, Hellcat. Family Guy is nothing without Peter, Stewie and Brian. And Peter, Stewie and Brian are nothing without Seth.

Hollywood as we know it is dead.

Oh, crap. That's another thing I didn't think about. AD hasn't been mentioned yet, but I guess you have to assume it suffers the same fate... unless it gets produced farther in advance, like The Simpsons?

I wouldn't doubt FG has fans who care about the actual creators and quality. But by far, the average fan doesn't. You only have to look at places like YouTube to see a very large amount of the audience is loyal to the title, not the quality. New writers/voices would just have to crap out pop culture jabs and overlong toilet humour to keep this sizeable viewership happy.

They can only go as far as scripts have been written. Unfortunately that should last the rest of the season.

This is not EXACTLY Ren and Stimpy all over again, or else they'd be writing new episodes without Seth.

I still think you have to give viewers more credit than that. Family Guy is going to look and sound and feel completely different without Seth McFarlane at the helm. Peter, Brian and Stewie are Seth, 100%. I can't picture any other voice coming out of their mouths any more than I can picture someone else voicing Homer Simpson or Eric Cartman. It's just not going to work and if FOX tries it even the stupidest of people are going to complain that the hilarious talking baby doesnt sound the same at all and the show is going to die a very fast, painful death. And I'm not even going to get into the fact that Seth is the show's head writer.

Family Guy - Seth McFarlane = one very quickly cancelled show. Period.

FOX has 3 episodes they can complete without Seth if they choose to, including the one that may or may not air this weekend.

Be sure to check TZ's Strike News. We try to get it updated as often as possible, and it seems like Seth's name has been popped up more and more in these things.
