Family Guy - "Tales of a Third Grade Nothing" - Talkback [11/16]

Didnt really mean Chris. Chris is funny.

But im pretty much fed up with the Meg bashing, though i probably should be more pissed at Seth than Meg for that. Louise completely devoided of how dangerous her son is, and how badly she can be in denial. Remember her brother?
All of these characteristics would make for interesting episode if done right, but not when the character is only used for moral support.

Overall, I thought this was a bad episode. The Brian/Sinatra subplot was okay. Peter being sent to 3rd grade could've had more potential. And while it's certainly a necessity for Peter to be a jerk, it was just overkill to have him accidentally murder a bunch of kids and get away with little punishment.

I agree that the Meg bashing jokes need to end. Most of them aren't funny, and it's a cheap way of getting laughs as opposed to actually developing Meg as a funny character in her own right. There are no uninteresting characters, only characters who the writers can't or choose not to make interesting.

Also, it's unfortunate that Lois is no longer an ally of Meg's. I mean, it's understandable in Peter's case because he's a borderline retarded moron, but you would think that Lois would defend her daughter once in a while.

Yes, Brian singing, and the Madden cutaway.

They've given themselves a little bit of capital. And that's not even the counting the dark stuff.

I'm surprised no one here has complained about the fact that HR told Peter you need a high school diploma to get a managemnt position, yet all he had to do to get the job was complete the third grade. Last time I checked completing the the third grade doesn't get you a high school diploma.

Other than that, I enjoyed the episode.

I've long since given up on Family Guy giving Meg any sense of respect. Granted, she possesses the typical teenager annoyance of being ridiculously whiny and self-absorbed, but I can no longer stand it. To be fair, Peter's treatment of Meg seems to be slightly better then the more harsh attempts previous seasons have employed. All he did today was fart on her. I can't remember, but didn't Meg suffer more dangerous obstacles in the past? Correct me if I'm wrong. Plus it does feel a little less frequent, so kudos on that.

This is why I enjoy the portrayal of Hayley in American Dad who is given far better grounds, characteristics, and chemistry between her family and friends. Yes, different shows and characters, but same creator. I think that's partially one of the reason why I'm slowly catering to her (weird, too--I never cater to the Liberal-ish self-righteous characters), among others. If Seth (or whomever) claims he can't write for teenage girls, then he certainly seems to have little problems with her.

:^: Oh, big time. Although the 2 characters aren't much alike, I think that Hayley is a better Meg than Meg.

About the episode itself: This was a pretty amusing throwback to the earlier days of Family Guy. Not an overdose of throwaway gags and some genuinely funny moments. Quagmire running into several of his illegitimate children at the elementary school was a great moment. My biggest complaint was that Peter, Stewie and Brian pretty much did everything in this episode, but I suppose it's to be expected since they are the fan favorite characters. I suppose that I shouldn't hold my breath waiting for another Lois, Chris and especially another Meg story line.

My rating: 3 out of 5.

I actually liked this one alot. I was pleasantly surprised, despite the unoriginal premise. The only things I didn't like were the Michael Jackson gag and the stupid Meg-bashing part. When was the last time she had a single line of dialogue that didn't result in her getting hurt/insulted?

Good episode anyway, though. What was the thing the judge said, that let Peter get off with only 7 days? I missed that line.
