Family Guy - "Road to the Multiverse" - Talkback [9/27]

While it didn't have much of a plot outside of trying to get back home, tonight's was quite enjoyable just to see where Brian and Stewie would end up next. This beat the pants off "Road to Germany".

As with everyone, the full animation of the Disney universe was a huge highlight. Not only have we never seen this kind of animation on Family Guy before, but we haven't even seen this on television in years! Needless to say, it was refreshing. And luckily pretty amusing too, especially Disney-fied Chris and Meg.

I also enjoyed the dog universe, and Brian being excited to be there until he had to pick up Stewie's poop was amusing.

I'll probably buy this on iTunes whenever it's offered.

Broadcast Order: Season 8, Episode 1
Production Order: Season 7, Episode 6

Writer: Weselley Wild
Director: Greg Colton

The 8th season of Family Guy starts tonight at 9 PM Eastern. And the show continues to be nowhere near season 8, production wise. Here is the synopsis:

Well whether or not Seth McFarlene or the writer's knew the rumors that Disney hated jews were false they needed an excuse to get out of the universe. :p

Good point. Obviosuly Stewie and Brian weren't going to stay in Disneyverse, and this excuse was just as good any to make them want to leave.

Also, did anyone notice that Tom Tucker was shown twice in this episode but Diane Simmons was noticeably absent? Was Lori Alan not available for this episode?

The Disney segment was absolutely glorious. Perfect character designs and an unpredictable punchline at the end. The rest of it had some amusing moments and one or two really groan-worthy moments that I don't think I have to go into too much detail about. (I haven't read the thread yet, but I assume at least one gigantic argument has come and gone.) There wasn't really much of a plot to speak of, but they had some pretty good fun with it.

Yeah... I didn't get that joke. I was sorta offended too, being a Jew. I realize they offend everyone with this show, but that joke just seemed out of nowhere.

I haven't really enjoyed the "Road to" episodes since season 3, so I'm not getting my hopes up, but it does look entertaining from what little I've seen.

Also before anyone points out in response to my previous post that there had been "Disney hates Jews" jokes from previous episodes they could have also just referenced it all those times for the sake of referencing it for a cheap laugh.

Also when the went into the misleading images universe at first I knew they were not home but they totally got me when I saw the far away guy who gives compliments.

I love how the beginning of the "Road to..." episodes have art in the beginning that has nothing to do with episode.

Not really. "Walt Disney was an anti-semite" is something that shows have been using as a source of humor for years. The Simpsons did a (tamer) joke to that effect way back in season 6's "Itchy and Scratchy Land". I got the joke immediately.

Remember, this is a show which begins with a disclaimer.

Honestly, that political cartoon segment got my biggest laugh. Stewie's delivery of the line at the end was hilarious (am I alone in thinking that the voice-acting is the saving grace of this series?). A lot of other segments made me chuckle, too; that part at the begining about a world without christianity made me laugh because of how blatantly they were trying to offend people (ftr, I doubt Seth or anyone else on the crew really believes that), the Robot Chicken shot was funny (and it deserved it!) and the dog-human world was also pretty amusing, though I wish it hadn't taken up the whole last third of the episode.

The disney sequence was notable because of it's animation, but I didn't really find it all that funny... the only real joke was that bit near the end, which would have been more funny if this joke hadn't been done so many times already. I get the feeling that a lot of that scene was for us - not us, specifically, but animation fans.

Yeah, any references Family Guy makes to Robot Chicken are priceless, but I wonder why they used clay models from Season 1 instead of the newer sleeker designs.

I would think so too, if only due to the way he was doing that walk cycle.

Someone out there's gonna get inspired by this episode to go ahead with fanart of other multiverses they could stuck the FG guys in, but the Disney one was pretty dead-on to that look we associate too well in traditional animated feature film (Disney or non-Disney).

Nearly there too, or at least in a style that at least borders on that look of at least making Brian look a tad more appealing as a dog.

Too bad they didn't digitally alter the lip movements or it would've been cute seeing Brian talk there!

Because we needed it.

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

It would be nice to see a limit place on these in the future if they can tell better stories this season.

Really, that would be amusing.
