Family Guy - "Road to Germany" - Talkback [10/19]

I think it was good that we didn't see the rest of the family. That would have interupted the flow of the story back in Germany. However, a funny gag would have been showing how the time travel was changing things in the present. Maybe Brian accidentally steps on a bug, and in the present an apple turns into a banana.

This was the weakest of the Road To... episodes. While Mort being a focal point of the plot for once was welcome, the episode was marred by eye-rolling political jokes, sequences ripped out of Back to the Future, Temple of Doom, and Duck Soup with few twists, and the absence of a musical number, despite a mildly funny screw you gag when they opted out of it.

Didn't they already do a joke about Hitler and Nuclear Weapons?

Like "That was different everyone knew [Hitler] had weapons."

Or am I thinking of another show?

Anyway, I found this episode amusing. I loved Stewie's 'nah, just kidding you can do whatever you want.'

QFT Plenty of 3-D scenes in there to suck up the budget. They were totally worth it though.

BTTF references are always welcome, except where its the "you know that new sound you were looking for...." take-off.

Overall, a decent episode. Quagmire was hilarious if only because it was unexpected. Stewie proving why he should be in the RAF is also priceless. The political jokes were a bit blatant to make them truly funny. Things did fall apart right at the end though; we knew Mort would walk in on Brian and Stewie in, uh, uniform, but they never played that aspect. All we got was Mort saying "too late". That could have been really funny but instead it seems that they felt that had written enough funny jokes for the evening.

Otherwise a good showing.

This was sort of like "Blue Harvest" (without the fanboy appeal); a less gag-based approach to the show that's kind of interesting but also sort of disappointing. I liked the Marx Brothers mirror gag reference, and the musical number that never was, and Stewie putting the Yamaca on Brian's head, but overall, there were just not as many laughs as I would've liked.

Yeah. I didn't think of that. After all, the other 'Road To' eps at least took place in the present so while Stewie and Brian were out, the Griffins were doing their own thing. I didn't think of the fact that time travel was sort of a different story. That might have made things confusing. But they could have made some funny gags out of that. I did like when Stewie warned Brian about stepping on a bug. Then he said, 'Just kidding. Do whatever you want.'

This really was one of the best episodes of the seasons. I love those Stewie/Brain episodeds though. A lot of funny stuff and really good animation. I loved the Sub action scenes. So yah pretty good episode. They really should have just made a Stewie/Brain spin off instead of a Clevland spin off

Wasn't it a blooper when Brian acted surprised at Stewie's comment about doing something in the past altering the present? Brian should know that would be true if he would remember his experience with peter in "Meet the Quagmires".

Stewie and Brian are too important to Family Guy; the show would fall apart without either of them.

Not to mention there'd be no rational way to explain it; what would they do, get their own apartment in another town? Stewie is just a baby, after all; Brian could conceivably move out, but not Stewie, plus Brian is the only one in the family who knows how intelligent Stewie really is. And without Brian, the Griffin household would lose one of its' voices of reason.

Besides, you wouldn't want to see "Road to..." every week. It would get old.
