Family Guy - "New Kidney in Town" - Talkback [1/9]

So, for those wondering what it would be like if some of Adult Swim's writers were to write a FG episode, well, it turned out pretty well.

...then again, I'm not sure how many people were thinking about that.:sweat::p
 
Funny, they actually made me kind of like Brian again. Funny how just a couple of episodes ago they took his status as being hatable to an extreme.
 
Y'know, speaking as a dialysis patient myself, I gotta say the writers did a good job with Peter getting the treatments and stuff. (except for the whole dog kidney donor thing, but I expected that. And I actually felt sorry for everyone, even Stewie. This episode makes up for that awful Christmas episode.
 
Sweet/hilarious/touching episode,

The highlights:
The Brian/the neighbors' dogs joke, hahahaha.
Peter's reaction/singing Ray of Light by Madonna from Red Bull was funny, hahahaha.
All the scenes with crazy/hyper Peter from the Red Bull along with the bouncing Stewie were :lol: hilarious, hahahahaha, I totally laughed so hard at them.
The burning cow/Chris scenes, hahahahaha!!!!!
Drew Carey from The Price Is Right.
Crazy/hyper Peter mentioning the Greased-Up Deaf Guy, I miss him which he was random/funny.
Crazy of Peter to put kerosene in his homemade energy drink, yikes!!!!!
Brian wanting to eat the unconscious Peter, hahahahaha.
Stewie's "How is Cancun" line was funny/classic.
The kidney transplant part reminds me of my favorite early South Park episode, hehehe.
Peter/Glen/Joe talking about the cast of Charles In Charge was funny, hahaha.
Yellow Peter looking like a Homer clone from The Simpsons was funny.
Dr.Hartman mentioning the Giant Chicken's origin was awesome:eek::D.
Poor Brian saving Peter by giving him his two kidneys along with his speech was sweet/touching.
Brian humping Lois's leg was hilarious, hahahahaha.
Poor Stewie sad about Brian's sacrifice was sweet along with his massive running nose was hilarious, hahahahaha.
Dr.Hartman being the donor saving Peter was awesome which he's the next best/funny likable character of Seth's ever.
Chris/Meg's What Is Hope speech was sweet/touching.
Stewie holding on to Brian's ear while sucking his thumb copying Linus with his blanket was such a cute scene.
Barack Obama being like Elvis Presley in a nice gold outfit was an awesome/funny ending, hahahahaha:D:p, Barack's appearances in many cartoons have been terrific so far.

I wasn't sure who the writers were at first, but then I looked at their resum?...color me surprised.

I definately came back at the right time to see this show again.
 
I enjoyed this episode more than I've enjoyed a lot of episodes from the last couple of seasons. One of the things that I enjoyed about the episode is that Chris and Meg were featured. I prefer them to be a part of the show. I don't like the episodes where it's basically just Peter, Lois, Brian, and Stewie that are featured from the family. It's the equivalent of having episodes of The Simpsons that really don't feature Bart and Lisa.
 
Wow. That was a surprisingly tasteful ending. Mainly because there was no Meg-bashing for once.

On a technicality, Meg "inspired" Chris to write that speech, Chris won, and Meg deserved the spotlight.
 
This episode made Family Guy feel like a totally different show. It was weird seeing them do a serious topic and not make a mockery out of it. Peter's reaction to red bull was awesome and I especially loved him bouncing Stewie on his knee at a really fast speed. The Price is Right gag was funny too. I couldn't believe Peter put kerosene in his homemade energy drink and that he passed out right away. Peter passing out from missing one dialysis treatment was scary to see. I was shocked that the doctor gave Peter a kidney. I was pleasantly surprised when Chris allowed Meg to read the essay on hope with him.
 
People really find this "touching"? Like most other similar episodes this season it's been painfully forced rather than touching or emotional. While I applaud their efforts to change the show in a way that most people have called for for years, it's clear that at least the animators and voice actors are incapable of pulling it off. Yes it seems like watching another show but not a good show. Again I realize this is what many people have been calling for for a long time, but I'd rather have a crude show that knows how to be crude than an emotional show that doesn't know how to be emotional.

As a side note, at the end, is that really how the Family Guy staff thinks people see Obama? They do realize it's not 2008 anymore, right? The whole "rock star" aura has long since faded, except with maybe the most myopic of registered democrats - oh wait, that makes sense.
 
Yeah. That's the first he's been mentioned on "Family Guy" in a while, though they did mention him last season on "The Cleveland Show."

Actually, the running nose joke grossed me out. But it was nice to see so much sentimentality. Brian wanting to save Peter, Stewie wanting to save Brian. You haven't seen too much of that in the past few seasons. I also liked the giant chicken reference.



I noticed that too. I wondered if that was a reference to Linus Van Pelt with the blanket.
 
...I can't believe there was actually a reference to Bye Bye Birdie. I downloaded the original "Honestly Sincere" onto my iPod after I saw a high school performance of the play, so I end up listening to it quite a bit. When I heard the first couple notes, my mind immediately clicked to the song.

I must say, I liked the chicken reference.
 
Gonna quickly comment ahead of tonight's episode.

I'm not sure if I'd go so far as calling this episode 'touching,' but there was definitely a lot of heart. The episode started with a whole lot of funny (Peter spending the whole first act hyped on Red Bull) and then the emotional pull of Brian willing to give his kidneys and his life for Peter to survive.

I did like the way Brian got out of it, though.

The B-plot was good, too. Just when you think Chris is going to completely take credit for Meg's deep, influential moment of hope, he shares the spotlight. Good for the both of them.
