Family Guy - "Extra Large Medium" - Talkback [2/14]

Stewie and... Chris? This was very different.

I didn't like the fact that Chris was attracted to a girl with Down Syndrome.
I mean Chris is one of the main characters and for some reason he's going after the completely wrong thing. She was really mean to him and it went nowhere. I didn't want it to go anywhere anyway. What Peter and Louis were doing was a completely random B plot that almost seemed like writer had pulled it out of a hat. But it made sense because they introduced the fortune telling when Stewie and Chris went missing. It was tied together quite nicely.

Btw did anybody catch the company that animated this episode? I'm thinking it was Yearim or Digital Emation. (Sunwoo, Yeson, and Rough Draft don't do this show anymore I believe.)

The musical scene was the best animated part I've seen in it. The 3D always adds effect to the moment. The musical did good to fill up the time and it was nice.

It was ok. the only really funny parts were the psychic gags with Peter. "I'm either going to fly or ruin that family's picnic" *jumps and lands on Picnic* "You ruined our picnic!" "PSYCHIC!" lol, that was great. also, the who's on first gag was funny. Doggy Dominatrix was hilarious, and I enjoyed the musical number. but the plot as a whole was kinda stupid. and if chris wants a girlfriend they should bring back Amanda Bynes character.

What about when Peter had that bird and Chris met that girl in the vet? Or what about the other episode where Chris joins some liberal group in school just to be with a girl?

That seems likely. Fox won't let the Family Guy people say "retard" anymore, so they're having to rewrite scenes to get around it.

I did like that this was also a Stewie and Chris episode. I think this is the first episode they interacted like this. It was nice.

I think it's because he's very liberal.

Like he said, either three or four times.
Not that much.

They all have their moments. Remember the episde 'Griffon Family History" and near the end they talk about how Peter dislikes it and Stewie says something and Lois "I have to agree with Stewie".

No one has noticed that this caused a political controversy? They handed Sarah Palin a little more "poor me" ammo by having the Downs girl say her mom was the former governor of Alaska and she's used it to open up on the evil liberal media organization that is, uh, Fox. For which she works as a commentator for Fox News.

For context, Palin has attacked other humorists for jokes about her kids in the past. A David Letterman joke about one of her daughters led to "fire Dave" rallies. Also, this plays into recent touchiness about the word "retard" that was touched off when White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel used the word "retard" to refer to Democrats. Palin slammed him for that, although she let Rush Limbaugh off for using the word as a crude insult to Democrats and talking about a "Retard Summit" because what he did was "satire." Apparently Palin does not think the Downs girl in Family Guy is also satire.

Maybe that's because it wasn't funny at all Shawn Hopkins.

I mean really, the whole character and the subplot just wasn't funny and it didn't go anywhere. Chris whole monologue was also lame and horribly written as well as unfunny.

Not to nitpick, but that was actually a conservative group, the Young Republicans to be exact. The plot of the episode dealt with Brian's cousin Jasper trying to have a gay marriage, and the group that Chris had joined just for the girl was trying to disrupt it, including sending Chris out to destroy the petition Brian drew up in order to allow gay marriage.

I was more of a fan of the Psychic plot than the Downs Syndrome plot. I got more mileage for my laughs out of that than Chris dating the Downs Syndrome girl, the only part of that plot I did enjoy was the musical number.

Sorry, I'm late. My computer at home's not hooked up.

I thought this one was okay. Loved the Star Trek gag and yes I found the Palin gag hilarious. I guess I'm a bad person. The musical number was fine. I usually watch my FG stretched to 16:9 on my tv, so watching this one in 4:3 was weird looking. I didn't like the abrupt ending, though. First time in a while I said "that's it?"

Yeah. I've noticed that too. But it wasn't just this ep. I've noticed quite a few eps where Stewie and Chris would have a little bit of diaglogue with each other, but this was probably the first time it was centered around an entire episode. It's interesting that they're trying out other pairings of characters besides just Stewie and Brian.

This is interesting. The Down syndrome character in this episode was actually played by an actress with Down syndrome, it wasn't just someone doing a voice. And she thinks it was funny and that Sarah Palin has no sense of humor. And her e-mail also kind of proves that people with Down syndrome really can have their own opinions and be mean, because there's a pretty wicked snap in there about Palin exploiting Trig "for sympathy and votes."

I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line "I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska" was very funny. I think the word is "sarcasm."
In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life. My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes.
