Family Guy - "Dial Meg For Murder" - Talkback [1/31]

I enjoyed this episode very much.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it true that Seth Macfarlane hasn't written an episode since season 4?
Punching bag.

I found it funny but do I agree with it? No, why? I love offensive and stereotypical humor and just because someone finds it amusing doesn't make that person a racist.

Yes.

How many time has it been done?
From what I remember this is the second time I've seen it done and I usually find it very funny when it is done.

Meg's "WHHHAAAAAAA!?" sounded so weird (in a good way) :p.

...It's a stereotype. A racist one, but its meant to be taken in jest.

I really don't see the problem with the racial humor. The way Family Guy does it is very obscene, yet completely over the top. I've never had the impression that the writers actually feel this way about the minorities, especially since they devoted an entire episode to the Griffins living with immigrants at Carter Pwterschmidts house.

Lets remember that there are Asians on staff. People act like the entire staff of this show are a bunch of liberal, white males who sit around planning ways to offend other races.

Again, I don't think people are actually accusing them of being racists, or of not having "the right" to make racial jokes, but we're just wondering what exactly some of these jokes are supposed to be. I don't really see how an offensive stereotype is a joke in and of itself. But maybe some people do, I dunno. I'm not judging, I'm just legitimately confused.

Not that I'm expecting someone to "explain the joke" to me. I'm pretty sure I just won't get it no matter what.

That was a fair ep. It's nice to see Meg get her revenge on Peter for once.

I still wish they'd lose Herbert. I hope they don't start overusing Consuela as well.

Interesting breaking of the fourth wall:

Peter: (reading the TV Guide) Peter gets more than he bargained for when he joins the rodeo...

Stewie: Oh, so now everyone can understand me?

The Disney references were real good as well.

Yeah, I also don't think that over-the-top racism is funny in and of itself. I'm not saying that the people on the show are racist. I just feel that the show's been using it as a crutch when it comes to telling jokes.

Wow, people still think Seth and Matt Groening are in a feud just because Family Guy parodied The Simpsons font for the end credits? So, does that mean since The Simpsons once parodied the Hill Street Blues credits for their own end credits that those two shows were(or maybe still are, even though Hill Street's been off the air for years) in a feud?

Maybe some people should stop listening to Entertainment Weekly, who started all that nonsense in the first place.

You see, that scene reveals more about the viewer than the situation. They didn't show what happened next, mind you, so it's up to the viewer's own beliefs to think what was going to happen.

If you thought that the four black guys were going to rob the store, what does that tell you about yourself?

And THAT'S what makes the scene works.

see, it's funny BECAUSE it's so racist. That was probably my second favorite joke of the episode behind, "Oh, right, NOW you can here me." overall, the ep was merely ok, the piano playing bit was funny, the fly gag was great, I still love Consuela, and the branding thing was so wrong it was funny. OH, chinese nascar made me

Bingo. Knowing Family Guy's odd ball sense of humor, they really could have been doing anything. While i'm not denying that they use over the top racist humor for laughs like the other gags, that was actually up for interpretation.

I definitely enjoyed this episode. The setup was a little weird; I don't quite know when Brian started thinking of Meg as the typical American teenage girl, but other than that minor nitpick there were plenty of funny scenes. A bright spot in a pretty dark week for Animation Domination.

Saw it. Um...is it safe to say how epic this episode was? :D

Thing is, I would've preferred it taking place in a dream, as we know we'll get back to, you know, crap. Why is it that only jobs is part of continuity in teh FG universe?

The Nascar reference made me laugh the most. Maybe because I'm a fan of Nascar, and it was Meg who delivered it. Heck, I was laughing ridiculously hard at her "Whaaaaaaaaat?" delivery as well. :p

I'm sorry, but this was too cool. This episode felt like a fanfic.

I laughed my butt of at the Helicopter footage and the way Peter was playing the piano during the Billy the Kid montage. Also, the fly gag.

But seriously, Meg beating up everybody was a long time coming and well deserved. Although , in retrospect, everybody takes a beating on the show, so it's honestly not that big of a deal.

There were so many good gags I can't even remember off the top of my head.
