Family Guy - "Business Guy" - Talkback [12/13]

Hit-and-miss yet again. I did like Carter's many video will messages on the same tape to cover any and all disasters that may have occurred. "If the rope wasn't cut and I die from asphyxiation..." Reminded me of the "Gerald Ford is dead" sketch from SNL.

Lacey Chabert made me chuckle, too. And BTW, the joke wouldn't have made sense directed at Meg.

Okay. I didn't get the Lacey reference either, even after reading the posts, I'm still kind of confused. What does Peter saying that he could fire Lois have to do with anything? Did they fire Chabert? I thought she left because she didn't like the show's content, being a devoted Christian and all. The joke might have made more sense if Meg had said something or if they had used Lacey's name. I might need to sleep on that one.

I definitely caught the Scooby-Doo reference. It did come as a surprise for me that the monster ended up being House, I was sort of expecting Quagmire there.

I liked the Hamburger Helper bit too, though I feel it sort of dragged on a bit long.

They were just referencing how the show let her go. I don't think it really had to make since just the fact that they were stating she got fired and that is what could happen to Lois.

The Scooby Doo reference was awesome, I am a huge Scooby fan and as soon as I saw that I started laughing so hard I almost cried. They even included some classic Scooby music through the whole thing: every part of it was awesome and they pretty much got the Scooby formula down pat; Lois and Carter yelling s-swamp monster! one of them jumping into the other's arms a la Shaggy and Scooby, the thing with the file cabinet and of course the classic Scooby trap: a net being released trapping the supposed monster and of course Lois's "Now let's who this swamp monster really is" before the unmasking, all priceless moments.

Sorry but this episode was poor. I think the Cleveland Show won tonight. It had more humor compared to this episode of Family Guy.

I actually thought this episode was pretty good. It actually made me laugh a bit. A feat that Family Guy hasn't done in a long time. lol

It's the Great Long Red-Legged Scissor-Man! So that's where that came from. I know him from The Fourth Bear. In Jasper Fforde's book The Fourth Bear from his Nursery Crimes series, they make a reference to this. In the book, there's a place called Cautionary Valley where all the cautionary tales that people tell kids actually come true. In addition to the Scissor-Man, children who make faces have been known to have them get stuck that way, and monsters have actually dragged children under the bed if they got out of bed after bedtime.

I do have to admit that Peter's idea for an African-American Heart Monitor turned out better than I thought it would. Other great gags include Cheeseburger Helper, Carter's 'all-inclusive causes of death' video will, 'House' and 'Roadhouse', Brian's motivational poster, and the whole Swamp Monster sequence (I mean, really, what's Peter's biggest weakness? Swamp Monster? Ha ha!).

Season Four was fine, and Season Five for the most part was pretty decent. In Season Six though, the writing took a really sharp turn into what the show is currently (I'm hoping) trying to get out of.

This episode really didn't click with me; not that it wasn't funny but nothing was really especially memorable to me, just awkward. I don't get the praise of the Roadhouse scene especially, I chuckled at a bit in its debut episode but without Peter actually kicking anything, it's not funny at all to me. With Dr. House's unconventional approach to medicine (especially with the punch to Carter's jaw) I really feel they could have written that scene better.

That's how I feel. it seemed like Season Six and Seven were their experimental "Lets be a politcal cartoon genre now" phase and it failed miserable. It seemed like after those two seasons ended I wanted the show cancelled I was even mad when they got nominated.

The only people I know who don't like anything made before Season 7 just don't like Family Guy period.

The last half of Season 7 just sucked. I had no real problem with Season 6 as a whole, but "Family Guy" "The Juice is Loose" and "Not all Dogs Go to Heaven" are the worst episodes ever... ever.

The B plot of "Not All Dogs Go to Heaven" just about saves that episode for me. But I'll agree that "Family Gay" and "The Juice is Loose" are both very mediocre episodes.

That said, I love "I Dream of Jesus", "Road to Germany", "Oceans Three and a Half", "420" and "FOX-y Lady" (mainly for Handi Quacks). So season 7 wasn't a total loss.
