Family Guy - "Brian & Stewie" - Talkback [5/2]

Well, I saw it on Hulu and all I have to say its "Meh". First of all let me say this : I DON'T LIKE FAMILY GUY! AT ALL! Not one bit. With its bad animation, bad characters, lazy writing and simple-minded cast. But, why did I seen this episode than? I heard this show won't have any cutaways and stick to the plot. Which, for once, it did.

But the whole, "It's deep". No. Family Guy is a comedy show, not a drama-comedy show. It doesn't feel right at all. I really can't fully accept this episode. After all 149 episodes poking fun at ppl, thinking they are the best, being so raunchy and thinking it's "mature"; the 150 episode wants to be deep and show there's more to this show. It's like watching a dark-deep-realistic-drama movie, but in the last 5 mins, it becomes cartoony, goofy and cheerful and kills the whole mood this the film. It's understandable if the film set it's light side through out the film, but showing it out of no where; it doesn't feel right.

Though let me say this, even though I'm bashing this 150 episode of FG, I have to give it this, the FG writer does shows it can write a "REAL" plot without cutaways. I want to see more writing like that in the show. Not trying to be all deep emotional side (Come on, you really think I will take this show seriously after all these years ), but more jokes that are in the plot than cutaways. Now, I really don't want to see another FG show like this again. By means like that: I mean two characters in one room for a whole episode.

I see this episode as a black sheep & shield to the FG fans.
By black sheep: This episode doesn't fit. It's trying hard to be deep and want ppl to accept it as it is. Which again, after all these years being how crazy and raunchy it became, will be hard for some FG fans to swallow.

And by shield: So far this will be the episode where FG fans and use it if ppl (like me) bash on the show for what it is. But only for writing and plot at most.

At least the show did something new and shut my mouth a bit until the next episode.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this episode, but one thing is beyond doubt: Seth MacFarlane is one of the best and hardest-working voice actors around. An episode like this would be just plain impossible without him. He voiced two characters who were talking almost non-stop (to each other) for the entire length of the episode, including several minutes where they had to act drunk (while still talking to each other), and whether the comedy "worked" or not I think it's safe to say the dialog couldn't have been delivered any better. If anything was wrong with the episode, it certainly wasn't the acting.

@King It was stated long before the episode aired that it wasn't going to like the other FG episodes.
If you don't like the show as it is why would you "accept" the episode?
Deep? With the way the ending is, yes I see that. Showing there is more to FG? Not really sure.

Now, if you don't like the show why would you see another episode again?
Really? You really think the staff thinks that?
Not sure if a majority of FG's staff thinks they're the best either.

@The PRPD
Have you read everything I said or did you pick the parts that stand out to you?
Yeah, I knew the show stated it will be a different FG episode, but that's no excuse to go off track on a railroad you just made these past years and expect ppl to accept it. I get it if the show was like that these past years, I get it if the show through well built emotional drama secenes here and there in the series (Like Futurama), but just coming out and say “We want to show that we can be deep. So, in are 150th episodes, we will show are deep side”.
It doesn't feel right at all.
But I'll admit this, the writing was good. It didn't made me laugh at all, but I can scene (IMO) this was the first time the FG writers staff have to stick with plot and make it funny, “WITHOUT” cutaways. And which, I say, not bad. I want to see more of that FG episodes. They prove that they can.
I don't know why they decided to make the 150th episode emotional. Why not make a simple plot, maybe a sub plot, learn how the characters can fit into the plot, and try to make it funny that are in the plot, “WITHOUT CUTAWAYS”.
IT CAN WORK.

By means like that: I mean two characters in one room for a whole episode.
I did said why in my post.

Oh, heck yes. I think Seth's acting is the best thing about the show period - he's incredibly talented.

The episode itself was funny at times and the ending, at least, showed some balls by playing itself completely straight and not slipping in a "screw you" at the end. But you know what? I didn't buy it. Sorry, Family Guy, but you don't get to be meaningful after doing anything for a laugh for so long.

I think I did state why I watched it.

*re-reading my post*

Here, this is what I said:
But, why did I seen this episode than? I heard this show won't have any cutaways and stick to the plot. Which, for once, it did.

Yeah, thats why I watch it. I thought the show will make a real plot. And guess what, it did. But, I didn't expect to it be deep. They did state it at the beginning it will have a defferent feel in the show. I just thought they mean it will be decent for once with the plot. But I didn't know they will go all deep. Nor did I buy it. It's Family Guy!

I read the whole post.
I don't think they expected most of the fans to just accept.

For what it's worth, the current season has less and less cutaways and it was only deep in the end. You're making it seem like the entire episode was intended to be emotional.

Obviously. It's Family Guy's style and it's not a big deal.

"By means like that"? Do you mean "What I meant by that"?
And I still stand by my previous statement. I doubt they'll be another FG episode like this.
Okay. It's not a big deal whether you and others didn't "buy" it.

I'm just posting my criticisms. Though yeah, I don't like Family guy at all. But at least this episode didn't got me made unlike the other episodes. But still, it doesn't fit.

It felt little force to me. How it was built felt out of place. This is Family Guy! It's very hard for me, after all these years, to take that show seriously. Yeah, we all can say they gave us the heads up it will be different, but lets not act what we saw was way too different for this series.

And IMO, they use way more cutaways than the past seasons.

Why would any episode of any cartoon show make you mad? I think when it comes to that point is when you are taking the show way too seriously. If you don't like the show, don't watch it, but you shouldn't get angry at something as petty as a TV program.

When I say "Mad", I don't mean going out to a bar and trying to pick a fight on someone so I can release my rage what I saw on T.V. Is more like, "The hech, that was the dumb. There's no point to that. Why are they showing that on T.V!? WHY!? They took off King of the hill for this!?".

Again then, why are you watching it? They show it on TV because many people like to watch it.

And they didn't take KOTH for Family Guy, considering the show managed to stay on Fox for more than four years after Family Guy was brought back.

I just state two times way I watched it. The only thing that bother me was the whole deep emotion scene. IT FELT OUT OF PLACE TO ME! Sorry Family Guy, you wrote a good plot and stick to it for once, but the whole 3rd act was uncalled for.

Hey, even though most ppl won't agree with me, at least I'm explaining it why than saying “IT SUCKS“.

And I know FG didn't kick KO--
*Sigh* Never mind.

No. No way. Hell, [IIRC] two episodes of this season only had one cutaway.
I think it was season three that had the most cutaways. Three or four.
Even if you say "IMO", saying this season has more cutaways than any of the previous seasons is wrong.

In my eyes, it will always be there. As well changing topics and coming back to it as noting happen, the filers writing (Rare time though), characters personality going off & on, the running gags, and trying to sound smart really annoys me too.

But, I'll admit this, I do like the guy that says “Oh no”. Don't know why, but that's the only character so far that dosen't annoy me when he comes up on screen. And the deaf guy.

What! I never said I “HATE” Family Guy. I just don't like it at all. The show did made me laugh for a good 4 1/2 season. Hey, that's 3 times longer what most shows I really do hate. Maybe I should re-state of how I feel about FG:
I don't like Family Guy...Since after season 4.

And no, I won't stop. Sorry I wasn't those ppl that did enjoy the episode or the ppl that didn't like it and just said “I don't like it” and walked away. When I don't like something, I explain why. It's that simple to me.
Heck, many things I like and enjoy get bash on 24/7. If they have a reason why they don't like it, I won't agree, but I understand. But if they're reason is “It sucks” without any decent reason for it, than yeah, I'll call that person out.
