Family Guy - "Big Man on Hippocampus" - Talkback [1/3]

I think it's always funnier when Chris attacks Meg like that. When Peter does it it's cruel. But when Chris does it I always laugh.

Great episode. Definitely one of the better one's this season.

Yeah. I know what you mean. I think Meg bashing is funnier when Chris does it because it's more of a 'brother' thing, when Peter does it, it's like he's mistreating his daughter. The Adult Swim reference was neat too. I think I remember the first time I saw season 3 eps, they were taped from Adult Swim. It's also neat to see the giant chicken and the fact that there wasn't a huge fist fight involved. I guess they're saving that for the Star Wars ep.

Even though they've already done a few "failed cutaway" gags this season, I'm surprised they didn't go for one here. It was the perfect setup for it; Peter gets amnesia. He can't "remember the time he _________"! I guess maybe they just felt they've done it too much? Too bad they couldn't have "saved it" for this episode.

This episode felt more like a season 5-8 style episode than the rest of this season has so far (not a good thing in my opinion), but I'd still say it was funnier on the whole. Still optimistic about the show's current direction. I did love seeing Dwayne Johnson (although I'd already heard about it before seeing it) and the simultaneous use and condemnation of an incest gag; Chris yelling "Yay!" after Peter's proclamation was hilarious and then Meg gets called out for her humor being too dark. I always find it inherently funny when someone on this show starts accusing someone else of tasteless humor. I think maybe in some weird way it's comforting to know that the writers are aware of the boundaries of taste, and it somehow lightens the mood a little. It takes away some of the sting when they do an absolutely brutal joke like the Gene Siskel thing, which was just subtle enough to have that real "holy crap" factor. Where you don't feel like they're trying way too hard to be offensive, like if they showed Gene Siskel walking around saying "duhrrr duhrrr duhrrr" or something. Truly good edgy humor doesn't just make you say "Wow, they're making fun of that" -- it makes you say "Wow, I'm laughing at that even though I never would've expected to, because the execution of the joke is just that good."

The Adult Swim thing was very unexpected and interesting, but not so much in the "hilarious" category. Which is how I felt about a lot of other things in the episode.

Best show of the night once again.

Yep, it's funny FG didn't get around to an amnesia episode now, but I'm glad they did. Family Feud tie-in (especially with Peter's answers throughout), the Adult Swim's better than Fox bit, the callback to Surfin' Bird, Grand Theft Auto as a 'learning to drive' tool, and Quagmire's mojo ruined by the 'friendship' line by Lois. Even the aftermath with Quagmire in the background as Peter and Lois got back together was great!

Another funny outing for Family Guy.

This was a funny episode. I liked the Adult Swim gag, the Dwayne Johnson cameo (for some reason it's always funny when the show uses live action, regardless of whether the scenes would still be funny in animated form), and the ending scene with Quaigmire.

Which reminds me, does anybody feel like the show is inconsistient regardign whether Lois is aware of Quaigmire's advances or oblivious? She seems aware in some episodes and oblivious in others.

Great episode all around. Loved the extended Family Feud sequence, the return of Surfin' Bird was great, and Peter rediscovering sex. The Giant Chicken part let me down a little just because it was so... un-epic, but I guess the tradeoff was the long Family Feud segment, so I guess it's okay.

It's another one of those nights, though, where I am cursing the freakin' FCC.

But would Richard Dawson really want to pick Lois' nose?
