Family Guy - "April in Quahog" - Talkback [4/11]

Actually the Offical TV Guide mentioned it. Talking about the episode airing yesterday they said "A news report about the end of the world brings out King Of The Hill's Hank and the Smiths From American Dad" and, for some reason, Anne Hathaway". So obviously it wasn't the internet that was the only place the joke/rumor was leaked to.
Agreeded that the blame shouldn't just be put against Seth. Then again much more then say Matt Groening (who you really have to wonder just what he does for The Simspons nowadays) Seth has to be involved with most every aspect of FG/AD or even The Cleveland show, since they are all projects he started or helped start and owns the rights to them, as well as how he still voices a lot in every episode and thus at the very least, has to APPROVE Of all the jokes that go into every story. So obviously even if he didn't write this scene or that scene, he's okay with it and thinks it's funny and shouldn't be changed to be in his show. Which may not mean he writes it but it means he should be associated with each and every episode in at least that fashion.
As for the actual episode, the only really funny part about it were Peter's attempts to get out of Jury Duty (including his hatred of Ants, and running in the hallway against the Judge's orders) and everyone finding out about the world ending and they're reactions (I really think Herbert should of just knocked out Chris and taken him but his scene was funny, and Quagmire's scene would of been funny if Joe had pummeled the crap out of him afterward for sleeping with Bonnie) but yeah the whole third act being Peter trying to spend time with the kids... didn't really work for me. I mean there is reasoning behind it (since it obviously seems like in previous eps it looks like he dosen't care for Chris and Stewie, and we know he usually never cares about Meg. I did like Meg actually leading the others in a way to ignore Peter and them all ignoring him) but it just felt so disjointed. Like "how can we fill out the rest of this epsiode after the prank? Oh let's have Peter spend time with the kids, since even we know him having a last minute recollection with Lois would be terribly old shictk" which really shouldn't be done in the third act (if any act of the show). The whole third act should of everyone in town getting revenge against the news station really, though glad to see them make a more modern video game refrence at the end. (A VERY rare sight on this show).

At this point, "Seth" is just the collective name for the entire production crew. There's no specific person to blame, so we just collectively call them by the name of the most well-known person of the group.
It's kind of like when the government does something people don't like, often Obama is collectively blamed, whether or not he's really the one to point fingers at.

With too many reference-heavy jokes, a poor third act, and a pretty bad April Fool's Joke, this has gotta be my least favorite episode of the season.
Personally, I found the fact that the "last day on Earth" thing was an April Fools' joke hilarious. The whole episode, I thought it'd end up happening, and I just laughed when Tom and Diane called it an April Fools'. Having some rage going on at them would've been a nice touch, but either way, that wasn't too bad. I also found it a bit stupid that Joe wasn't angry about Quagmire banging Bonnie while Cleveland was about the whole Loretta thing, but eh... Would've been nice if that tune was there with the "Who else but Quagmire?" line.
As for the rest, aside from the MW2 bit, the last few minutes were a bit lackluster, IMO.

Unlike other Family Guy episodes, this one had so much talk, I just had to see it, and it was pretty funny. Sure, I still stand by my ideas of Family Guy, but the April Fools thing did seem very funny. Crystal Meth Peter got me. The only thing I do not understand is the logistics, but what is it worth applying logic to this, Family Guy is Family Guy, and who cares that no one even looked outside to see no warp in the sky like a black hole scenario would entail.

When it comes to the American Dad crossover, either that one is still being planned (with a lot of confusion resulting in press releases suggesting that tonight's episode would be that episode), or this is nothing more than an April Fool's fool that fails as much as Not Without My Anus.

Not getting the crossover was a letdown but I can deal if it really was an April Fools joke. I've seen worse before.
That said I enjoyed this episode. Not quite sure what the problem is with everyone else, unless not going the crossover was that much of an issue. Good stuff.
And despite it all I liked Not Without My Anus. Are people this thin skinned that they're this hurt over a joke on a cartoon show? People are acting like this episode kicked their mother down the stairs. There isn't a face palm image big enough for this.

There's one thing to learn from this inaccurate episode description about a crossover for the recent Family Guy that didn't happen but I bet it will never happen...

If it wasn't for the fact that American Dad was airing on the same night, I would've been more peeved at the episode after it's premiere since I thought it would be the last time I see Stan/Francine until this fall. However (besides WHABFAT), I hope there's an official AD/FG crossover in the distant future.
There were some good moments like Adam West sending a letter to the blackhole & punching Orion's belt. Peter/Brian getting high off of Meth, Peter gaining the respect of black people, Brian doing a muttley reference, and Peter screwing up in MW.
But I agree the third act did feel lackluster with Peter trying to make up with the kids.

Well, let's see, Peter made the children feel like dirt, there weren't any appearances of the AD and KOTH characters, and the fact that those jerks that pulled that stupid joke actually got away with it?! Not cool at all. This was a bigger let down than in the last episode when they didn't use the James Woods box joke again! What a waste!

The marriages between the Swansons and the Browns are two different matters. It was implied in another episode that the Swansons have an open marriage; Joe is okay with anyone who has sex with Bonnie, and Bonnie was admitted to having relations behind Joe's back. Cleveland, on the other hand, takes the marriage vow more seriously, which is what he didn't get in return from Loretta (RIP).
As for the subplot, Peter not caring about his kids wasn't all that surprising to me. It's not like he really spends much time with them anymore, since most episodes today are about his own crazy and lame adventures. If anything, this episode was sort of a reflection upon that.
