Family Guy - "And Then There Were Fewer" - Talkback [9/26]

Who will take over Tom and Diana as the Quahog 5 News newscasters?

R.I.P. Muriel...

Glad there will be no more James Woods in any future Family Guy episodes ever again!

Now I'm waiting for the Family Guy take on Return of the Jedi...

So James Woods, Diane, Muriel, and Jillian's husband are all dead? While they're all expendable characters, it's going to be pretty strange watching some of the older episodes. And where the hell was Ollie Williams?

Stewie saves Lois! Awesome.
And Quagmire stealing his girlfriend's body was hilarious.

All in all, a great episode! And a strong way to start the season. Can't wait to see the next episodes.

And am I the only one who sees a possible reopening of the Brian and Jillian storyline?

Good episode, but I don't know what's worse: The fact that Peter didn't help Lois, the fact that Tom is going to jail for nothing and there's no proof of his innocence or that all of this is canon. I mean, Mort and Jillian are now single and there won't be anymore News segments. Not to mention the fact that there won't be anymore James Woods gags.

Still, I guess this is a way of Tom and Diana getting what they deserve for that little April Fool's joke they played.

Ten dollars says we're getting a Zombie Woods episode sometime in the future.

Now I gotta admit, it's definitely a nice change of pace for FG to do this. Weird that the news segments will just be Tricia and Ollie now.

Epic win of an episode and 2 amazing season premires in a row now we have to wait til next sunday or beyond to see if this episode was canon or not.

Oops, wrong show.

Very good episode, but I bet a lot of people are going to be bored by its thoroughness to explain everything - something Family Guy isn't exactly known for. The pacing was very well done though. It was interesting without being wordy and funny without constantly trying to force its humor on you (pay attention, Cleveland Show). If this was a particular spoof of a series or movies, they probably did a good job of echoing it. You can tell the animators loved to show off the scenary.

So 20 minutes in and we finally get a cutaway scene.

I know it's really small, but I liked it better when Shamus' origin was just "my father was a tree."

I know Seth stated in his twitter that it's canon, but I'm a bit reluctant since he put quotation marks on it. That's usually an alarm indicating that he may or may not be pulling our legs (or maybe I'm going crazy since I usually do that when I'm being facetious). I really do hope it is canon because the idea of killing of a few recurring characters and putting one in jail is a gutsy move for a show like Family Guy and a brilliant, welcome addition to the show. This is the same show that had Meg riddled with spears in one episode, for Pete's sake. One can wonder if this will have any effect on the overall show later on. *shrugs*

It was a fantastic one-hour opener. The CGI at the beginning (and elsewhere) are painful as hell (the water especially looks terrible) which is irritating because they've been pretty good about it in prior episodes, but it's not supersaturated enough to bother me. Though the show is largely a comedy, the brief, silent moments where characters wander around the mansion adds that rare, atmospheric touch. I also enjoyed the overall plot because I tend to like "And Then There Were None" type of story.

I agree with GWOtaku that the repeated fat jokes got annoying, but otherwise, this is an exceptionally strong episode and quite possibly the best Family Guy opener yet, even moreso then the Multi-universe one with Brian and Stewie.
