False advertising- Anime intros/credits for non-anime

Most people know that when the 90's X-Men cartoon was imported to Japan, it was given two anime openings that ended up having better quality animation than the original show.

Much odder than that, I ended up finding the Japanese opening to British puppet show Terrahawks. The OP seems to reserable Crusher Joe/Space Adventure Cobra more than it does a puppet show.

Are there any other examples of anime openings, endings, or sequences for non-animes?

I'll get back to you on the answer but...

Man that Terrahawks opening was so amusing. Usually you'd have like... a showcase of the characters there, but they did their best not to reveal any of the characters in an anime styling.

Well, here's the original intro, and if my guess if they animated them so they didn't look butt ugly, there would be problems.

King, that's just US footage with a Japanese song. It's interesting, but I meant fully animated intros and clips with Japanese animation where they otherwise would not be.

Yep, that's the first Japanese opening for 2K3 (episodes 1-13).

Here's opening 2 (14-26): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wv4ywQaD7ts

And opening 3 (27-52): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi1V-1u0Db0

The irony with opening 3, which aired during the entirety of season 2, is that 99% of it is footage from the third season. This has lead some people to believe that they may have in fact dubbed up to episode 78, but only aired to 52 due to poor ratings.

Then, here's the endings -

Ending 1 (1-13): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSph2ksjTTQ
Ending 2 (14-26): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj6dfdBzeAg
Ending 3 (27-39): -Can't find it at the moment-
Ending 4 (40-52): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIiaRVQ_kZo

Again, ending 4 consisted of clips from season 3.

And, while we're at it, here's an ending to the original cartoon, which is mostly a slideshow of VHS cover art, early production artwork for the OVA, and a random clip from what I can assume is the song's music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvxqFdFIN8E

Edit: Ah, didn't realize that's what you were looking for, Beat. Oh well, the ending from the original cartoon at least has some artwork that was never shown in America.

How about Densha Otoko/Train Man with Twilight? I was googling this and a fact that I didn't know is that the opening, animated by Gonzo, is actually a homage to a short called Daicon IV produced by Gainax founders and/or veterans.

I doubt anyone has clips of this online anymore, but when PowerPuff Girls was airing in Japan on TV Tokyo, they gave the show two openings and (technically) two ending songs. While the openings generally consisted of clips from the episodes set to the song, I vaguely remeraber the ending sequences having fanart. Sometimes, due to length, the ending songs would run into the next episode previews as well.

There was also a Japanese exclusive video for one of the songs, Work Out Soul, which you can view here. PPG also recieved a Japan only short, which was a cross-over with a show that ran on TV Asahi. It re-aired once on CN Japan during the 10th Anniversary Marathon.

Anyone know who animated the X-Men openings, because I know for sure that it would have contrasted with Akom's work (in a bad way, much like Transformers G1).

OLM did the first opening sequence, while another company (I can't remeraber which for certain) did the second opening. The ending sequence used american comic strips, which would change over the course of the series. Really nice touch, if you asked me.

Turns out Terrahawks had a Japanese ending too.

It really feels though like the ED was based off of the original script for Terrahawks, which was about human colonists returning to Earth to find it overrun with monsters and their quest to reclaim it rather than what Gerry Anderson eventually made.
