I had the same problem, I hate the under ground subway, :/
Anyway I forgot how I finished it, but if you look at your local map next to the world map, you can get more detailed instruction on how to get to a location. It won't have a path all laid out for you, but it will have a little flashing marker you can walk to, it makes it all a lot more easy.
