Falling out of love with Lovefilm (dvd rental)

I signed up to Screenselect in mid-2004 and received mostly excellent service right up until they merged with Lovefilm. Since then, the service has gone downhill with an extremely slow turnaround of discs to the point that I'm only getting a couple per week if I'm lucky, even though I'm signed up to the 3 at a time.

Has anyone else seen their service deteriorate and can anyone else recommend another company I could be using. I've looked across the range (easyinternet, Tesco, Sofa Cinema etc) but they all seem to simply be using LoveFilm as their agent (which might point to the problem -- over subscription). Are Blockbuster any good?

I think your story is echoed by just about every former Screenselect customer. I know three personally who've all now jumped ship, plus have heard the same story time and again from online associates.

If you do decide to cancel wait until after 11PM and you can do it online rather than wasting a load of money on hold to their call centre.

I am another Screenselect customer who notice a shocking deterioration in service post merger. The story is repeated in review sites all over the net such as www.dvdrr.com/reviews/LoveFilm.html. After they reactivated my account following my cancellation to steal a months money, I moved to Blockbuster and have had no problems (like the old SS service). I would never use these Lovefilm scam merchants again.

Am I the only one who despises this new sending out two or three discs in one envelope to your door... so you have to wait until you have watched more than one until you can send them back...

Lovefilm is bad, i used to be a member with them and they either sent me the wrong dvRAB, or faulty dvRAB and it was always messing around waiting for the dvd i wanted so i give in and decided to cancel and buy the dvRAB which worked out cheaper. Asda is selling dvRAB for

I joined them on a special offer of 3 months for the price of one and it was fine for a while as I was getting many of my top choices. However, recently I have been getting films from lower down my list, which I reckon was due to the fact that I had gone on to the "free" 2 months of the offer!

I have now cancelled and re-joined Amazon, and have already received 2 of my top choice movies. I prefer Amazon as they are cheaper and I like the way you can organise your rental list. You can prioritise your choices into number order and also see immediately if your choices are available or not. Plus you get an extra 10% off any dvd's you choose to buy.

I would seriously consider choosing them as I have had very few problems apart from a few films going missing which they sort out straight away.

i have used blockbuster.co.uk for over a year now. very happy with service, website a piece of cake to use too. they have just added a "seen it" function, meaning if you have seen a film in the cinema you can make it etc.

im on the 14.99 a month with 3 dvRAB, it works really well and you can almost get one a day if you time it right with the postings. turn around is pretty much 1 working day.

hard to find anything to complain about. they send you the disks in seperate envelopes but you can post them back in one, which is nice.
