Falling off of a horse is painful

About a week ago I fell off my horse, because I am a dumbass and was doing something I shouldn't have been (riding without a saddle or bridle, riding late at night, riding with nobody around, with no cell phone on me if I got hurt). A stupid cat spooked my horse by jumping down from the loft into the arena directly in front of him. I hit the ground. Very... fucking... hard... on my right side. I laid there for about a half hour before I could even move. I was going to go to the emergency room that night, but decided to try to sleep it off and go to Urgent Care the next morning. I bruised 3 ribs, fucked up my hip, and strained my rotator cuff.

This was my hip the day after it happened. That bruise eventually grew in size by about 250% and covered most of my side. My ribs are still bruised, and it hurts like a motherfucker to breathe deep or cough. The doctors at urgent care wanted to send me to the ER to get a CAT scan done because they were worried about internal bleeding, but I declined. I can't afford that shit, I don't have any health insurance.

I've taken worse falls than this, but it still sucks every time.

Fucking hilarious, DG.

I'm going to start riding again in the next couple days whenever the weather turns nicer. As much as I like horses, they make me nervous. Even when you're doing everything right they can easily get spooked. I think of them like cats in that regard.

Anyway, glad you weren't seriously injured, ferengi. Hope you heal quickly.

I'm not sure internal bleeding is always a life and death situation. At least, hopefully not in this case!

Why not?

I've done it, although not very often. Just need good balance, and an occasional good grip on the mane!

In this case, with the horse spooking as it did, there's a chance that he still may have fallen even if he was using a saddle. Of course, it would've helped...and I didn't see it happen. Just throwing that out there.
