Fall 2009 HD channel number changes

That's one of the first things that occurred to me as well. It sure would make HD and SD channels easier to find. There are a few HD only channels but they could retain a place in the 800s -> 1800s.

Unfortunately Bell doesn't even explain any of this on their website.

That just infuriates and baffles me.

More channels have been added to the 1000's.

Looks like the french channels and the specialty channels (A&E,Rush,TLC,Showcase,Oasis,WGN..etc)

I saw no TSN, Sportsnet and Score yet.

Depending on how you set up your PVR events initially, you may not have to change anything. One advantage of NBR (Named Based Recording) is that it finds the programming for you. I use NBR almost exclusively, however, I did set a particular channel to record from, so I plan to just edit the event and change the channel assignment I entered. I think that should do it.

Does anyone know when this switch is going live? I know that they had listed a date of Oct 26. I see the channels but I'm still recording and using the HD 800s.

Should I start removing timers, adjust favourites, etc and make the jump completely to the new channel set?

Bell should just copy them all, advertise that the HD channels are moving (preferably by way of a mailer), and move them next Spring after the television season is over. That's plenty of time to get used to the new layout, and the least amount of inconvenience, I think. I suppose that could be what they're doing...

Soon I hope!!!....but they will probably move to another permanent location after a few months. Gotta love Bell!!!!!

I added some shows again and see what's happening. It seems shows for next week that don't have the first aired date supplied are the culprits. The pvr doesn't seem to know that they are the same show. Try adding "Cops" on both channels and you'll get duplicates all over the place - even for today's episodes.

According to the information channel 887, "Phase 1", beginning October 14, entails moving just the English-language Canadian and US network HD channels to the 1000s. Presumably, the rest of the HD channels will be moved in one or more later phases.

Indeed, those are the channels that currently appear in the 1000s in the Guide on my PVRs, along with five of the HD sports channels (CBSCH and NHLH1-4).

The English-language networks still also appear in the 800s, but the program descriptions in the Guide for shows on those channels all begin with a note of the form "CCCCC will be moving to ch. 1xxx." That note does not (yet) appear in the program descriptions for other channels in the 800s (specialty, movie, sports, French, PPV, etc.).

I notice they have added a "this channel will be moving" tag to the information on next week's US Network programs.

Does anyone know why Bell decided to move all their HD Channels to the 1000's?

Will this move have any added benefit for them or for us down the road?

What channels exactly have been disappearing? I haven't noticed any of the new HD channel #'s disappearing, All my timers on the new Channel #'s are still there.

They are back again now. 1055 - SUNHD and 1051 - CTV Toronto HD - 1203 - FOX East HD were gone the other day, but within 24 hours they were back. There could have been more, but those were the three I noticed. When looking at the schedule, many of the shows that were pending record were gone. Smallville, Supernatural, Judge Judy were not there anymore. It's possible that not all receivers were affected. It's interesting to say the least.
