Faith No More appreciation thread

^ Angel Dust.

I've been listening to this band recently, and while I like all their output, I really like Chuck Mosely's vocals. Weird, I know.

Can't believe there was no FNM thread before today! Shame on rab of the past. :D

I've loved these guys since I first saw the "Epic" video on MTV way back when, and Mike Patton has been one of my favorite singers since, also. Unfortunately I never got to see them live...my parents wouldn't let me go to the Metallica/FNM/GnR show, I was like 15 I guess. BastarRAB. And I didn't start going to shows till I was 17 or 18. Like Jackhammer, I lost touch with them at some point, but for me it was after Angel Dust. I'm not sure really what happened, I think I just got more into industrial and punk, I don't know. So eventually, I think in 98 or 99, I was talking to a guy that told me I really should check out their last two albums, so I did and FNM and I were re-joined. I like both but think I prefer Album of the Year.

It's really tough for me to pick a favorite album. For years I liked The Real Thing best. Some of my favorite tracks are definitely on that album ("Surprise! You're Dead!", "Zorabie Eaters", "Underwater Love", etc.) But now the production sounRAB very dated and thin to me, and Mike's vocals are more nasally than I've become used to. I'd love a remaster of that album, big time. It would really refresh my enjoyment of it. Angel Dust was always awesome but some songs I don't care for that much, I guess. I don't hate them, but there was always something about a couple of them that didn't sit well with me. "RV" and "Ji-zlobber" are awesome. I really like the mellow crooners on the last two albums. "Helpless", "She Loves Me Not", etc.

I like the early pre-Patton stuff too, but not as much. Before I learned about the band's history, I did assume that it was Patton singing "We Care a Lot". They are somewhat similar (early Patton, anyway) if you're not paying close attention.

I would kill to see a reunion show...though festivals aren't my thing and I would prefer to see them in a small indoor venue. That will probably never happen. At least I can say I saw Mr. Bungle in such an environment. :thurab: I'm also usually against band reunions because when they make new albums they usually suck, but my love of FNM is so deep that I've give 'em a pass and let them record a new album. I like Patton's voice so much and enjoy him in a rock environment more than anything, so I don't think there's any chance I would not like it (unless we're talking 10+ years from now or something).

I think that 'Epic' is a classic song/video from the 90s, the guitar solo on that song is outstanding, as far as that goes I think that the band as a whole is kick ass, his vocals could be described as very sassy in my opinion, besides epic I havent heard much of there other music except from the the movie 'Black Hawk Down' which had a song on the soundtrack by faith no more that I liked alot, dont know the title of that one.

Evidence is one of the 'purest' songs that FNM ever did. I think that's a damn masterpiece. Funny that all this FNM talk has enticed to me to put on Mr. Bungles 'California'. What a stupendous album.

They wouldn't let you see a gig at 15? I really feel for you mate. My first was at 15 and Slayer no less 1987 :D. For some reason it will never be forgotten!

I'm not surprised that Faith No More don't have more U.S. tour dates. Most people don't know that they released any albums after THE REAL THING. We can partially thank MTV and Radio for that.

Well I guess they knew I was listening to heavy music and didn't want me to get hurt. They probably saw it as an adult thing, which honestly it was. We lived in the burbs and I always hung out with my buddies in the neighborhood, we were good kiRAB. The whole concept of a metal/hard rock show to them was probably crazy. (I don't know to what extent they partied when they were young). Though they did let my two sisters go see New KiRAB on the Block around that same time! They could have been trampled by NKOTB freak-fans.

wwwWWWWOOOOOooooowwwwww

such depth and insight

gotta agree with Sidewinder on his assessment of 'The Real Thing', it's unfortunate as it was one of the better albums of the early 90s and helped the mainstream break away from the poofy hair and spandex to open the doors for alt-rock.

kind of disappointed they don't do ****lobber live but i can understand why, they didn't seem to do it a lot back in the day either, live clips of that track are nearly impossible to find and any time i've lucked out the song is always split across two clips. thankfully Just a Man turns out to be just as epic when it's done live.

I was never a huge fan of Faith No More until I saw them at Soundwave in Sydney two months ago, man they were ****ing awesome. Angel Dust, Album of the Year and The Real Thing have become three of my favourite albums.

i wouldn't quite say that, the impression i get is that he's most definitely uncompromising in both achieving and getting people to recognize his vision, but i really don't think he's disrespectful to those who are willing to at least consider his perspective. he just doesn't have patience for superficial stupidity.

think about it, how many people going to see FNM in north america would be people who've been waiting and hoping for this chance since 1997 and how many of them are trendy hipsters who were still figuring out how to not poop their pants anymore in 1997 and who just want to be seen at a seminal band's reunion show. but maybe i'm the pretentious old douchebag in this charade.
