Fairy Tail finally gets anime adaptation

I think ive mentioned this before, but i think Natsu is what would happen if you grabbed Luffy, then took out his soul and just left the personality, as in i think Natsu is just a hollowed out shell of Luffy' being. But thats just a problem with Fairy tail in general, it practically has no dept.

I'm very tired of Fairy Tail/One Piece comparisons, which I think are unforgivably lazy. Natsu's personality is actually fairly different from Luffy (he lets his temper control him, Luffy is easy going and fun loving), detractors act as if Lucy is a Nami clone because she's gorgeous (what?!), and One Piece is not the only series that gets to have a zany sense of humor. Does Boa Hancock mean that other manga can't use characters with snakes? Well, we'd better indicte One Piece then, because Naruto got there first with Orochimaru. That's the argument at work there. It isn't a good one.

The influence is unmistakable, but to say that the series is just ripping off One Piece is absolutely ridiculous. If anything lacks depth, it's this pathetically shallow internet meme. FT isn't the best thing out there, but it holRAB its own well enough.

Okay, except for the pointing at the sky thing (seriously, there is absolutely no getting around that one) the rest of the stuff is a bit more forgivable. As most of those people have completely different personalities

Kakihara as Natsu? An unconventional choice to be sure, but I think in this case it will really work nicely.

Hirano as Lucy really does not mean much to me either way. Lucy is a nice character, but there were about a hundred other actresses that could play her just as well.

More people would probably most recognize Yuuichi Nakamura as Graham Aker from Gundam 00 then as Alto. Another well made casting decision.

Hey! Rie Kugimiya is actually voicing a character that's not a tsundere and isn't named Alphonse Elric. Fancy that!

Erza's VA is an excellent choice. Ohara is exactly the type of actress that can bring out all of Erza's various quirks and make her sound both powerful yet feminine.

I still want to see if they are going to cast Masukazu Morita as Loki. Now that would be funny.

Silver Soul, you maaaay want to edit that image macro if you know what I mean.

And ripoff or no ripoff, I find the Fairy Tail manga very enjoyable. I even went and bought the first seven Del Rey volumes at my local anime con and have been enjoying the volumes since. That said, I'm eager to see the anime.

Makarov will probaly be voiced by someone like Takeshi Aono or Banjo Ginga, you know, one of the great old men of Japanese voice acting.

Seigrain? If they want to do a direct shout out to Rave Master, then they would let Masami Kikuchi play him. Otherwise I really don't have an idea of who would play him.

You forgot the artwork and character designs buddy
Dude chill I was just kidding, as a fan of both it's hard not to see the similarities between the two, infact the only difference is that people are more likely to remeraber who Orochimaru and Boa Hancock are. Honestly the only thing that stops Fairy Tail from being a generic shounen knock-off is Erza's characterization.

Of course, if you're gonna rip on Natsu for being like Luffy you might as well rip on Luffy for being like Goku. Each one has traits and quirks that differentiate from each other, hell I think Natsu is smarter than Luffy and Goku, and bit more selfish.

It was joke, sorry, I like Fairy Tail as well more so than Mashima's previous work RAVE, mostly because it's ALOT less cheesy. It's an enjoyable read and I can't wait for the anime as well

Yes it's a rare sight to see a STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER in a shounen series that gets just as much screentime as the main character and actually can put up a fight against him.

Honestly, I don't really think it's a bad thing to rip off of One Piece. Oda does a pretty darn good job when it comes to handling a lot of situations. (So why not use him as a guide, heh.) I've never really thought much of a Nami and Lucy comparison.. Even now I just don't see it. Two completely different personalities to me. The only thing they have in common is that they're targets of fan service... >_>

I believe I've had this conversation in the manga thread before.

As you've stated, the problem with FT is its depth. FT falls flat in a lot of areas (or rather, it fails to deliver), particularly its characters. And that's OP greatest strength (IMO). Out of FT's characters I only found 2 of them that are enjoyable to see. (Erza and Gray) Everyone else is on the boring side. Even the hyperactive Natsu is fairly boring.. (I guess this is because once you actually see the knucklehead role a lot you just get tired of it.. That's how it's been for me lately.) However, FT's pacing is great. Fights nor flasrabroadacks goes on forever.

Like I said in the manga thread. It's actually hard to not compare the 2 when the designs look very similar (Yes, FT has the better artwork), as well as both leading characters acting quite similar. You can say Natsu and Luffy are different all you want but, one could argue that their "airheadedness" is basically one in the same.

With all that being said I'll still give it a chance mainly because I'm looking forward to seeing how the animation will turn out. (Basically the fight scenes.) If those don't turn out so well I pretty much won't be touching FT since I don't really read it anymore.

Anime character designs for Lucy, Erza, Happy and Gray are now out:

While they look a tad younger, the character designs are still great! I'm so excited for October now!
