I decided to make a drink called Cloud 9. Take about an 8 oz glass and fill it...

1/2:Nyquil
1/2:Everclear

If you don't die, you're headed to cloud 9.

I'm a saylor, drinking is part of my job.

Ummm, sounds realy familure. I think I might have had that before.

The only time I ever had a problem with drinking was when I drank 1/2 a litet of Jack strate w/o any chasers in 15 min. I passed out 15 min later.

Oh, and I think I might have made an ass outa my self in the chat, but no one will tell me what I said...

I'd say go for option 2 and do it right the first time. However, if you can get the 44 for 200 plus the free coupon, it sounds like you can save some serious money. Of course it's a helluva gamble. You'll either wind up with a great bargain or 200 bucks down the drain. I think you've got to trust your gut feelings on this.

I know of the deal throug connections, and I'm having the thing tore down and rebuilt. The gear change will be for the front. Looks like I'm spending around 1200 dollers here, but am comming out ahead

yay for necro posting...

lee, i had another axle go out on my VW... ya know, the ones with a CV joint? yeah, the boot ripped and the bearings were kinda grinding together... sounded and looked nasty. last one i ripped before this just completely fell apart right outside of my driveway. this one at least we caught it beforehand.

I had the cv shafts go out on my escort. That was a bitch to change. But this is a bit different. I need to replace the whoile axle here. Its a solid axle that weighs 180 pounds (could be less, but I know it weighs more than me.)

Cv boot changes can suck my ass.

a 1/2 inch of play in your pinion says that your pinion nut has backed off and your is causing your pinion to float around...the water means you submerged it driving through mud or water and commited cardinal sin. You didnt open the case and let the water out, then re grease the setup. Not sure if youre running the stock Dana 35 or what, but those are horrible as far as sealing against the elements. If you changed gears in this axle, the pinion may not have been torqued to the correct specs...If it has been wearing unevenly, the teeth may not be meshing right now...by picking it up off the ground, you allowed the teeth to be pulled apart by moving the suspension, and putting the jeep back down, the teeth jammed in where they werent supposed to be. that combined with the water (lack of reliable lubrication...hehe I said lubrication) would cause the teeth to bind something fierce...Now as far as fixing goes, if you really USE AND ABUSE your rig off road, a 44 might be a good idea...they tend to be quite a bit stronger and will stand up to water a bit better than a 35. Just make sure to RTV seal the shit out of it when you assemble it all. If you pick one out of a newer truck, you might get lucky enough to grab disk brakes too :) the only thing you might really need to change is your master cylinder b/c the brakes on the 44 are going to be bigger and need more fluid to operate. hope any of this helps. sorry if it doesnt. any Jeep questions you have feel free to PM me and I can probably help you out. have torn down and rebuilt my rig too many times to be healthy :)

I allready have a 44 in the shop being rebuilt and regeared. The jeep ws stock except for the 32's. It looks like the ujoint failed before and was jurry rigged back together. I over toqured the yolk back on witch is why I can drive it now. There is still play in it though. Thanks.

BTW, I have spent a bit of time under a hood as well.

I guessed that by some of your other posts :) Not saying that you dont know your stuff, but every once in awhile, a second opinion does wonders, you know? Nice to see someone who knows the wrench also...My rig is currently in storage out in the deserts of Nevada, b/c I have no way of transporting it around in So-Cal where I am at now...I am planning on a move to Colorado in the next 6 mos. hopefully, so I will be back to destruction and looking for antoher mad brain to run wheeling-based ideas through. Glad to hear there is someone that has a similar case of Jeepitis that I do.

what are you talking about? there's lots of good desert to run around in here in so-cal hehehe.

not that i do much off roading, but i do drive around a lot.

Yeah, but the police in Carlsbad dont take too kindly to my tires tossing rocks through their windshields...They say I need fenders and blinkers and a floorboard...I say they are sissies. :thumbsdn:

well yeah, they're carlsbad cops. they're like chips without the sexy shorts. biggest sissy cops ever hehehe.

i took my jeep through the dunes east of the mountains here, towards yuma. it was a lot of fun.

is that you in that buggy?

yeah, thats my baby...if I could get a trailer to pull it around on down here, I would bring it down, but doesnt look like that is gonna happen too soon. Besides, fuckin' Carlsbad cops would probably just shoot me like they do to all the other folks down here. Shoot first and fuck the questions...I think thats what their taught.

anyway...there are some more pics of it in the gallery if you care.

i went and looked. looks like it got stuck a couple times. that must've sucked.

as long as you stay on the freeway through carlsbad the local pd can't do anything hehe, it's chips territory
