Ok so I have a Jeep, some know this. I know my way around under the jeep, some know this. Something just happened that pissed me off.
I drove over to this guys house and put a new started on his car. On the back to base, the rear ujoint blow out. Well some people would be stranded, but not me, I took the rear drive shaft off, put it in 4x4, and drove home. No big deal I thought. I'll just buy a new ujoint and put it on tomarow. It is about a 15 min job.
I drive it over to the hobie shop (it's an on base mec shop with lifts and ever thing you need to fix a car) and put it up on the lift. A guy I know from another web forum was helping me, and we looked at the yolk, and it was fucking chewed to hell. I thought again no bug deal another $15 dollers/12 min and I'm on my way. I pull the yolk off and I find that I have 1/2 inch of play in the fucking pinion. For those of you not too familure with this stuff, it should not move at all.
So I have to get the Jeep out of the garge and get it to a shop to get this fixed, it I get it fixed (details at the end of this post.) So I go to move it, but the axel locked up so there was no moving it. BTW I found traces of water in the axel too, so it is just 12 different kinds of fucked up right now.
My options;
1.) rebuild the axel. just get it fixed. I will have to get it towed somewhere first, and it should run $600 and will be just as prone to failure.
2.) Upgrade the axel to a dana 44, or a ford 8.8. I kinda want to do this anyways, but will take time to get the parts. Might run $1000-$1200. Can be done where it is at right now.
3.) Find someone with a 44 off a TJ for sale. This takes time and the price will vary, and I will prolly get something that has been abused, but should bolt in.
I just have bad luck. I realy feel sorry for anyone with luck like mine.
What do you guys think I should doo?
