Failed fusion stories

Are there many of you out there that didn't fuse the first time (bmp), but fused the second time. Also, is there a certain time frame that they can be sure that you're not going to fuse? I'm scheduled for the 25th, and still petrified. Need any good stories out there. A few have posted previously and thank you for that.
 
i know with the surgery suggested for me(i have not had it though) they said they would use screws. i think it would definately fuse, its just a matter if it will hold up to the rigors and time.:jester:
 
I had a 2-level fusion (L4/L5-S1) in March 2008 and never fused. I developed a very large cyst (post-op) that was not detected until Deceraber 2008. I had x-rays done every 6-8 weeks, but the cyst went undetected. I started experiencing an increase in pain in mid-October and had a CT scan and two MRIs in Deceraber. I had the cyst removed, more bone materials inserted into my spine and two additional screws added in a surgical procedure in mid-January (2009).

I am currently almost 6-weeks post-op from that second surgery and will be getting x-rays soon to see if fusion is starting to take place. My dr. inserted more bone material into my spine to give me a greater chance of fusing this time. All in all, I'm feeling much better considering I'm only 6 weeks post-op.
