I took my car to the state referee and the HC failed. Max allowed for 15 mph is 66 and mine was 86. Max allowed for 25 mph is 49 mine was 80. Everything in my engine, except my legal short ram intake (AEM), is stocked. I did a tune up 5 months ago, wires and spark plugs, and the short ram air filter is brand new, 1 week old. I have also started using high octane gas, 91, because i heard it burns better. The vehicle was properly warmed up before being tested. Then, I replaced the upper oxygen sensor (connects in the exhaust manifold). It failed again with similar results. My mechanic then changed the catalytic converter. He tested it out on his machine and it passed (pre test). Then i took it to the state referee and it failed. At 15mph max is 66 mine was 66 (it barely passed), at 25mph max is 49 and mine was 87. I took it to my mechanic and he said he doesn't know what else he could do. He said it should of passed. He said either they use a different machine, or he the rpm ran was different and it has an effect on the HC. At the state referee they ran it at a lower rpm for the 25mph test. it was at 2006, and my mechanic ran it at 2600 rpm. He also said he cant mess with the timing belt because my car is all done electronically. He said go take it in again and to tell the referee to run the rpm higher. My mechanic said there is nothing more he can do! Is this true??? I have taken the test 5 times! 3 with the new cat converter!! please help me.
