In Dec 2005/Jan 2006 I had a few incidents of facial/lip swelling. Twice I went to emergency/urgent care. There was no pain and I was able to breathe without difficulty. Final diagnosis was that maybe the fish I had eaten was responsible. I neglected to mention that I was taking an iron supplement, because I didn't view it as a 'medication' when asked; I thought they meant prescribed medications. In the between years I have had less frequent and severe cases--enough that I had pretty much forgotten about them. Recently, over the last few weeks I am again experiencing facial/lip swelling as before and hives. Also, in addition to the iron I take, I take Norvasc for high blood pressure. I have cut down on salt intake and tried avoiding aspartame--the three bouts were preceded by my drinking diet colas.
I usually take Zyrtec (prescribed at first; now OTC) and for awhile I took Claritin in place of Zyrtec (my insurance provider recommended it).

Since this has been going on for years, it might be worth seeing an allergist to help with the detective work and treatment. If you have a food allergy, blood tests can be performed to identify it. It might also be worth quitting the iron, to see if it helps. Don't quit your BP medicine without permission.

Some people take two Zantac per day instead of 1. Ask a doctor or pharmacist if this is safe for you.

Hives are not something you should just live with. It's time to figure this out.

Look up oral allergy syndrome and see if it fits. It does from what little info you give.....
