Facet injections

Is weight gain common after facet injections? I've had two epidural steriod injections in my lumber and I've noticed my stomache is blown up like a balloon. I am a person very obsessed with my weight. I am supposed to have a facet injection in a week and i'm freaking out about the weight gain. Please someone give me some feedback. My menstrual clycle has also changed.

It may be a sign that you're getting better, :) when long term inflammation (or illness, injury) starts to go away the body responds by increasing appetite and a shuffling of hormones. Your body should find it's "balance" again in a few months.

Talk with your doctor; weight gain and menstrual changes are common side effects of oral corticosteroids, less commonly with injectables. Steroids are a synthetic human hormone (two, cortisone and hydrocortisone) so naturally alot of it's side effects are along that vein.

Steroids causes the body to absorb too much fluid. Usually after stopping steroids for a while and/or taking a diuretic a person will lose a lot of fluid. Check with your doctor to see if a diuretic would help you. Do not take without your doctor's approval because diuretics can cause the electrolytes to get out of balance and than can cause serious problems.
