Fab films not on DVD.

It seems that this is one of the few Hitchcock films not available on DVD, (not even Region 1).

Other forum members favourites that have not yet been on DVD invited.

Here's the article as published in the August 2002 edition of Total DVD:

"Wondering whatever happened to Warner Home Video's UK release of The Goonies: Special Edition DVD originally set for release earlier this year [2002]? Well, we're sad to say that things aren't looking that positive at the moment. A spokesperson for the company told Total DVD that when the film was initially put through the classification process the BBFC awarded the title an uncut 12 certificate, while Warner wanted a PG cert. Unwilling to cut the film for a number of reasons (including the way in which it would impact upon the disc's video commentary) Warner Home Video still hopes to get the video passed with a PG certificate, but at present it looks as if it will be a long hard struggle for the studio."

If I were you I'd just get the Region 1 disk if possible - it really is worth the time and effort getting hold of it (if only for the cast ripping the pi$$ out of Sean Astin for leaving mid way through the video commentary to go and film LOTR) It really is a great disk for all the fans out there!

Dear RicharRAB,

I agree great film.

Is it any coincidence, that this directed by Steven Spielberg, whose TV debut Duel (1971), is still not available on either side of the atlantic.

Contractual rights, I presume

Ian

No it's not a coincidence. I don't know the ins and outs but it's something to do with Spielberg's own opinions. Hardly any of his films are on DVD - mind you, all the decent one(s) are out anyway, from his pre-"I need a sugary film to win oscars with" days
