OK... so today I get this letter in the mail from the education wing of Veterans Affairs... it says that I owe them $921.80... I'm pissed cause...

Well back a year or two ago I was going to college and recieving money from the VA cause I signed up for the Army College fund when I joined the military... they overpaid me the 921.80... so I kept recieving notices to pay up or else... well I waited too long.... they sent my account to collections with this company "Pioneer CR".... that sucked... they raised the debt that I owed to $1179.90 (admin costs).. that sucked... so I decided I would get off my ass and pay them.. so on March 25th I withdrew the 1179.90 in the form of a cashiers check... mailed it... they got it... all good in the hood, right... nope...

so today I get the letter mentioned in paragraph one... I call the VA.. they tell me they have the account again and that Pioneer told them that my check bounced.... WTF.. it was a cashiers check they cannot bounce.... so I call Pioneer... the lady says that her records indicate that there were nonsufficient funds to cash that check.... WTF.... Its a F*cking CASHIERS CHECK!!!.... I ask her so will this more adversely affect my credit.. (credit already hit a lil bit by it being in collections)... she said "of course, you bounced a check with the Dept of Treasury"... ohhh I'm pissed now....

I remain calm enough to call my bank to try and find out why one of their cashiers checks bounced... the lady calls me back and says ... "Sir... I have a copy of the front and back of that check. It was cashed on the 30th of March, through Bank of... blah.. blah blah... " So I have to call pioneer again... they say its no longer their account... call the VA... so I call the VA and the dude acts like I am some dumb shit and gives me the fax number to their litagations dept...

all these fucking hoops and someones got my 1179.90... and it aint me... I have all the paperwork I think I need to prove to them that they fucked up not me... but who knows it is the government trying to collect a debt.. they will prolly get it outta my tax return if I am still fighting this...

Thanx for listening...

Moral of the story...

Well you have your proof, but your only one man. They need it from all resources. Which means the VA would have to say they received payment on such, and such date, and that it was a ginormouse misunderstanding. Here's the other side of it also! There's more than one credit bureau, and they communicate much like oil and water mix! My GF is a broker for a mortgage company and she sees this all the time! They will run your credit through three of the leading bureau's which each give you a different fico score then they pick the mid score of the three, all three credit reports must comply with each other. If they do not, the customer will have to do the foot work to straighten it out with the creditor's/bureau's and who ever else is involved! Which may end up denied or a higher rate.

dan...that sucks balls dude..specially having to deal with the assholes on the other side of the phone....theyll put you on hold...give you the run around...
i too delt with creditors on my parents behalf....language issues....anyways...its a pain in the ass.....good luck to ya man...i hope that all works out well for you...

One of my buddies suggested that I figure out how much VA and Pioneer employees make on average.. calculate how many hours I spend figuring out their fuck up... and when I figure out for sure which agency is at fault.. send them a time sheet and a bill for my services... continue to send them letters demanding my payment... give them like 90 days or so.. and when I still get no $$ from them .. report them to the credit agencies...

... sounds good in theory...

i kinda do the same thing with credit card companies...but isntead of sending them a bill..i send them all the pamphlets..brochures..and spam they send me....with their pre-paid envelope...im sure the ppl who open up the letters they get love that...

Even better. You take the pamphlets from one company and use the envelopes to send them to others.

Legal notice: Believe it or not. that is actually a federal offense. If you notice, most of the prepaid stamps say "For official purposes/use only". Not that they would spend tens of thousands of $$$ to prosecute you.

Ouch. Been there. Just another way for the government to fuck veterans out of the benefits they owe us.

If the VA (or government, in general) sends you something, never ignore it. They know where you live and you will repay them. You found out the hard way.

Bad...I'm still curious how one can bounce a cashier's check. I mean, you've already paid for it. That's like bouncing a money order.

Typical bureaucratic runaround. Ignorant fuckers. Your tax dollars hard at work.

Keep on them and demand to speak to a supervisor at the VA. Keep demanding that until it's fixed. If you have a paper trail that shows you are in the right, then they have no choice but to clear the debt.

so your trying to screw over the government and ask them for money for the time that you spent trying to figure out who fucked up...yeah thats gonna work, piss off the government you'll get your point across, dude the government will never admit its wrong...
