well i know your situation exzactly i had been dancing since i was two and i stopped for 2 years to play soccer and when i got back it felt like i had completely forgotten everything and i had completely lost my flexibility but my advise to you on that is to stretch everyday 30 minutes a day doing every stretch that you would do in dance class it worked for me and i got my splits back and im able to do all my old things also dont focus on hurrying up and getting everything in your head just focus on doing good at your dancing and relearning and perfecting everything youll get there but you cant rush it or your dancing will turn out very sloppy.

hi im a dancer and have been since the age of two. i used to be fairly good until i quit when i was 12. im 15 now and have started back up again and a little bit rough at it. not doing as well as i want to. my goal is to be as good as the dancers on 'so you think you can dance' before i finish highschool. does anyone have any tips for me that could speed up my progress in regaining my flexibilty strength and endurance?? like how many times a week should i practice, what are specific foods i should eat and are their any special classes i should take?? i know this is kind of a weird question but im really just looking for some really gooooooood tips:)

Inroll your self , at a good dance school/studio.
If your a little imberessed because you havn't dance for a while,
then take some private summer classes if they are offered.
And make sure you practice your flexibility training and other training at home too and not just at the studio.
Make goals, and keep up with them.
Make some short term goals, you already have a long term goal.
But some short terms goals would be..
(not sure how much of your flexibility is lost but..)
have all three of your splits down to the ground by then end of the summer (left, right, middle)

hope i helped.

Hi, I'm a dancer too! I now choreograph for a big company so I see many dancers at auditions. Firstly, to be a good dancer you need to work really hard. At the moment school is important so weekends are a good time to train. If you want to build up strengh, then you should do ballet classes.
Once you have finished school, the best thing to do is find a really good performing arts collage. Some even do work experience! You will dance all day everyday!
Most courses are 3 years. It is very hard work. You will find that in the 1st year 50 people may start the course, but by the end less than half will finish.
You also need to be able to take corrections & be pushed to the limit. If you have the passion, then you will do it.
Now about eating. Don't fall into the eating disorder trap. Most dancers are very skinny, but there are much better ways of staying thin.
Eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water & if you want a lovely flat tummy, learn how to do sit up's properly!
I hope I have been helpful. I have loved my dancing life. It was hard to get here but worth every minute.
Good luck. I hope it all works out. And you never know, I may even see you at one of our auditions in a few years!
XxX
