External (cigarette lighter type) power connection

Does anyone have an easy way to set up a power connection with a cigarette lighter type connection on the C50 type bikes? This would be to facilitate powering a GPS or keeping a cell phone charged.

I've seen comment to the effect there may be an option within the headlight wiring/light bar--but not seen how to do it.

Guess one could always go directly to the battery and run a connection from there, but out of the headlight area and connectivity near the steering would be great.

Thanks in advance

If you really want to tap off in the headlight area pull out the headlight and tap off a wire inside the bucket. On many bikes there is a spare set of wires inside the bucket to hook things up, but I don't remember if the LC has one or not. Personally, I usually tap off the spare accessory terminals on the fuse block. If your accessory terminals are in use, or it is too hard to run the wire, I tap off a front running light, not the headlight. That way a short will not leave you without a headlight. I generally try not to use an 'always hot' circuit or run directly to the battery, so that the outlet goes dead when I turn off they key and there is no risk of draining the battery overnight if I leave something plugged in.

Send message to Jerryzuki (my pop). I bought his B-Vard it has a 12v receptacle plug is in between the tank and seat well hidden. He had a GPS device on it as well. I'll Take some pics if you want

You will need a weatherproof type Socket, they make them for trucks. You can wire it to the battery, just in case you need to use one of those emergency JUMP systems... I will be putting one in next riding season, and I am putting it right on the battery, and will install it on the frame somewhere to point out to the left or right. I will buy one with the weatherproof CAP on it. I want to be able to charge the battery through that port, or jump-start it.

They sell a KIT that connects to your Cigarette lighter (mostly for cars, and the wiring is even THINNER there), that charges your battery in about 5-10 minutes. This same technology can be applied to the MC with a port like that, to use. The external 12V hook-up port has thicker wires, and thicker insulation. It takes MUCH less power to jump-start a MC than a car, but this is not really a JUMP, just a small charge time. I have done this BEFORE, and have had no problems, so AS IT TURNS OUT, was a GREAT IDEA FOR ME.

So, like I said before.........OK for a boost charge but probably NOT OK for an actual JUMP start.......unless you keep the cranking time EXTREMELY short.

I actually have a cord like that in one of my cars.

I went back to my battery with a fuse and used a weatherproof socket attached to the mounting for the wind-screen. I use mine to charge my phone which is also a GPS. I used 2 stainless steel hose clamps to attach a flexible windscreen mount with the suction cup end cut off, to the handlebars. I put non slip tread strips around the bars to protect the chrome and add security.
