External car antenna for my E61 - should I?

So I've purchased Mobile Holder CR-47 for my Honda, needless to say the phone fits perfect with a nit ejection button and a power jack for power. It also came with an Antenna coupler adapter.

Had anyone tried to connect your phone to external antennas? Any improvement with an amplifier
 
You should install some type of antenna as the phone may decrease in power when placed in a hang up cup with no antenna attached.

A simple window patch antenna will work, however if you are looking for a signal increase, a rooftop permanent mount or glass mount will enhance your coverage.
