I live in an apartment building where there is satalite tv in our common room/party room. I am wondering if there is any way I can use the dish and have it in my apartment. I contacted Bell and the woman I talked to was confused by my question.
I am thinking that bell may have wired the building and I can gain access to it.

Do you have access to your local cable company (Shaw, Rogers, etc) in your apartment? If so, do you have an additional cable outlet that doesn't seem to work? If so, there is a slight chance the apartment is wired for Expressvu.

I would guess that if they had it set up for people to plug in their own receivers, you would have been notified about how to go about getting a receiver.

You may have to put a dish on your balcony; assuming it faces south.

Thanks Tom. I PM'd ya back. I dont know why our building doesnt advertise this service.

I spoke to Bell finally. Not easy people to get a hold of. I cant imagine how long it might take if I have a problem???

Anyway, they said my building is wired for Expressvu and that it does have HD. They said I have to go and buy the Bell Expressvu HD Receiver from a store than call them to hook it up. I mentioned that I had no need for the dish however that the package comes with for $299; Bell said sorry but it is only sold like that.
I am wondering if I have any options to buy the HD receiver without the dish in an attempt to save some cash?

Thanks again

You can buy the unit by itself , you probably would have to look around try future s. or others phone around & see, or order it online from bell .ca like many others have and get it that way !

If your building is wired for Expressvu then it is NOT the same as the Expressvu for condos but the version where one EVu dish on the roof feeds all the apartments through a coax cable network. You would not need the dish, just the receiver but the best deal out there today includes all the installation hardware. You could probably sell the hardware on Ebay to pay for part of your receiver purchase price.

Well that was fun....
I had shaw come and cancel my cable then got BEV in to hook up with them and the guy says "no you cant have HD in this building". Sweet.
As luck would have it the dish on my apartment roof is HD ready but they never wired it in for HD. If the guy at BEV I originally talked to had not told me that I could have HD, none of this would have happened. Anyway now I have no channels and Shaw will come out again and hook me back up. I am getting killed in fees, good times. Anyway, my ranting is done.

I live in a Condo downtown and the dish on the roof is setup for HD.

They did not do any special "wireing" for HD, it is fed thru the old Rogers or Shaw coax so I have a single feed into my apt.

They use special equipment and I split the feed in my apt and can run the 9200 with both tuners no problem.

As a matter of fact I still use my 5800 at the same time.

Whever I call them I must argue that I do get HD cause the standard answer is ... you cannot.

I think the install company did all this setup stuff. I have been happy watching HD for about 3 years now.

I had to give up and go back to shaw. It really shouldn't be this hard to get set up with BEV.

Kickbacks from the cable company? Landlords sometimes sign contracts with cable companies for exclusive access. They cannot deny you access to other suppliers though.

Wondering if anybody new what box you need in your apartment to get both satelite signals my building has the dual dish on the roof but when i had dishlink come out to hook up they said they didnt have the parts and werent getting any in i know the single lnb dish uses a NAS SCD-1U i tried the NAS SCD-1U but it only sees the one dish what NAS box do you need to get both sats and if these other boxes are available to buy somewhere ...

Thanks

I have a NAS SCD-2P34E in my apartment now and this let's me use both my 9200 and 5800 at the same time.

I think they also had to change something on the roof but I don't know what.

The tech came with his boss because they had never tried this before with a 9200 Dual tuner.

Tech figured it would not work but once we hooked it up everything was fine.

Does anyone know if they allow satellite dishes to be put up in the Manulife apartment building in dowtown Toronto? If they do, would I still be screwed if my apt isnt facing the right direction to receive the signal?
I need to know by tomorrow morning..long story. I tried calling them but it was after office hours..
thanks

Theres no For shure answer, but As long as you're facing South West, you shouldnt have to much of a problem. Is there ANY satellite dish's on you're building??

if not, then have the installer Install the dish on the floor of you're Balcony, and then when he leaves, simply but a Leafy plant and Slap it in front of you're varanda to conseal you're dish.

funny, expressvu is suposed to have Writtin conscent for Installations that are not on Houses. 98% of installers wont give you a problem. And if they do, show them some cash and im shure they will have no issues with it.
