Really? Personally, I'm quite happy with the HD content. I watch mostly the US networks and "learning"-type channels. Other than the sim-sub issues, picture breakups and some in low quality I'm quite happy (maybe due to getting rid of my crappy old TV).

At this point in time I don't think Bell should be charging extra for the level of HD quality they are pumping out, but $10/mth I don't find to be unreasonable. Hockey in HD is awesome even though the quality is badly downgraded from where it could be.

I must admit I am reasonably impressed at how well the TV zooms a SD image so shows on Space or other SD letterbox shows look quite good. I know people will hit me over the head for that, and yes, actual HD shows (particularly HDNet) look a thousand times better.

Congrats...I was in the same situation a month ago - I was considering the Rogers offer of a free PVR for two years - the retention offer I received was very similar to yours. Well done!

...and, like you, a year from now, I'll have the freedom to reconsider service providers based on what's on offer then.

Excellent! :D Something I love is that they seperate the HD channels (800 and up) so they are easy to find... I'll typically start my search for something to watch on channel 800 and go from there.

I'm still trying to setup my tv correctly though... I have a Panasonic 42' (TH-42PX60U), I currently have the 6100 set at 16x9 and 1080i, can anyone tell me if this is the best setting? I was originally annoyed by the grey bars and stretched and zoomed screens or whatever it all is... but I'm getting used to it.

For HD, you should not have to stretch or zoom. It should be full screen by default (at least for most shows). For SD, I only zoom for letterbox shows such as "Space" typically have otherwise I live with 4x3 image.

Yup, billing errors are a fact. I also had to pay the $100 up front for installation of my new 9200, then saw it refunded as a credit...

and, I also had an extra $75 charge for "additional receiver". I called BEV - it was straight-forward - they adjusted my bill without much hassle.

Like I said its a personal opinion. I don't think (personally) paying $20 for a 6100 and programming worth it for its content. I am not a big hockey fan anymore. I liked Raptors HD games but it was mostly other teams. When you get into the networks you only get usually a few hours a night of HD, and I have often seen a show described as HD only to be showing in SD. Again only my opinion. I think HD is still a little overhyped at the present time.

That sounds more of a reason to get rid of it....lol

I've gone the other way. I've only in the last month upgraded to HD. I had been a holdout...only now do I feel there's enough content (especially hockey, sports in general, and prime time network programming) to justify the move. IMHO, it's the last 12 months that's seen the real tidal wave...now, I expect we'll see more incremental increases in HD content - a few more shows in HD (especially Canadian content, where we definately lag behind), and a few more sporting events every month.

"I don't think (personally) paying $20 for a 6100 and programming worth it for its content."

I would agree with you there, I was holding out for a while and was simply calling to suspend my internet (which still hasn't happened) and ended up talking to to a rep about HD content. Since it worked out that the upgrade, equipment and programming where all free (except for 6mo at the end of the year for programming) I decided I would "take the plunge"... all for a total of $60 over the next year. :D

I'm a HUGE hockey fan so I can't wait to see the games in HD... perfect timing!

Matt, did you pay the 100$ rental certificate prior to the install on a credit card?

If you didn't had Nimiq 2 programming prior to the install you are entitled to the installa free of charge.

If you did to be able to credit the charge we would need it to be writen in the retention offer. Client that had Nimiq 2 prior to the HD install do have to pay the install

Have you called for the credit for the installation? What were you told?

Matt,

I hope you are happier with the 6100 than I and hundreds of others were. Have you noticed any skipping or freezing with it? I purchased mine with a 2 year extended warranty and make a dozen or more calls to rectify the freezing issue. They denied it was a problem until I found this forum and the hundreds of others who experience the same thing. It got so bad that I cancelled my HD service. The HD picture was nice, but not if it was freezing every 30 seconds.

Best of luck!
