Hey Everyone,

I usually just read post but after speaking with Bell last night I thought I would make a post regarding my conversation...

I had called them to change some channel programming and cancel my high speed connection and discuss my options for moving from SD to HD since I recently purchased a new HDTV.

The gentlemen I talked to was great! I was hesitant to sign up for anything since the point of my call was to try and cut back my bills but after a lengthy discussion I was given a free installation (pretty typical) and free rental of a 6100HD reciever for a year and 6 months free HD programming. So in total I will have to pay $60 over the next year ($10/mo HD programming for last 6 months) and only had to contract to 1 year.

Seemed like a good deal to me! I'm happy, I thought I was looking at a big expense to go to HD. Has anyone else had a similar experience? They said it was easier to give a deal because I have been a longtime customer (4 years).

Great Forum by the way!! :D

Sounds good! Did you change change channel programing and cancel your high speed connection?

It was not necessarly easier... You just got the standard "Nimiq 2 upgrade offer" + a small retention offer (the HD receiver for a year). I'm sure you could have pushed it for a 9200 rather than a 6100

It sounds that you are happy with what you got, and that's all that counts

Haystack: I actually put my high speed account on suspension for 6 months. I did change the programming (swapped sports 2 for lifestyles 2 or something like that) had to give into the wife who wanted the health channel...

Agent Express V: I did acutally ask (at the end of the call) if i could get a 9200 instead of the 6100 and they said yes but they could only give me up to $120 off so I would essentially have to pay for 6 months rental... maybe something I should have considered but again I was in the "cut down" on spending mode rather than "beef up the bill" mode. I guess this way I have a year to look for a used 6100 or 9200 to buy... I would rather own than rent.

Like you said, as long as I'm happy, and I am!

matt your $60 installed with receiver for a year trial of HD is a good deal. (You have me thinking). I don't think you got as good a deal on the swap of sports for health. The things you do for love.

I live in one of the last Cogeco areas, and they recently ran a promotion where they would take any satellite you owned and give you a free HD PVR for 24 months.

I called Bell, and was offerred 12 months free rental of a 9200, plus 10% off ALL programming (with free installation, of course)

When my year is up, I can switch to Bell's latest and greatest, or plug in my old (owned) 5900 PVR and carry on. However, it will be a killer going back. It took me about 10 minutes to get hooked on the dual tuners/PVRs, and the 7 day schedule calendar is great!

Definitely not. Take the free rental for the year and look at purchasing and rental costs for the new receivers then. HD hardware costs are going down and hardware is getting better. Wait until purchasing if possible. An HD PVR purchase may make good sense in a year. (Though not necessarily an EV HD PVR.;))

 She gets her health channel, I get HD (finally) for my new HDTV... and just in time for the hockey season! I'm not sure she understands what HD even means but again, I'm happy!

If by "you've got me thinking" you mean your consider calling to see what your options are it's a great idea... as I had stated above I simply asked about my options for HD and let the CSR do the talking, then I simply indicated that I wasn't looking to add to my monthly cost and again let the CSR continue talking... without pushing or referencing competitors he talked himself into giving me that deal. :)

Great deal ... enjoy. Do you have anything in writing?

All existing customers get 6 mths free HD programming when upgrading to HD. All customers get "refunded" HD installation (you pay $xx on a credit card in full and get some portion -- maybe all of it -- on a future ExpressVu invoice as a credit).

Did they explain to you someone has to show up and climb onto the roof and install a new "arm" and additional wiring down the side of your house and a new switch and drag new wires into your house through the caulking or maybe drill a new hole to fit the additional cables?

The 1 year 6100 HD receiver rental credit for one year ($10/mth for a one year contract) is great and not generally advertised. Are you swapping an existing receiver or adding an additional one?

Do let us know how this works out after installation and initial billing.

Well, I got the bill the other day...

Some right, some wrong... I somewhat expected it.

Phone service was corrected and credited as needed, (I removed call answer on my phone service).

High Speed Internet, I had suspended it on Aug 22 when I called but my bill didn't reflect any changes at all, so I am still being charged.

ExpressVu, there are so many line items I can't really tell if it's right or wrong... I see lots of charges and credits... the only questionable one is "additional reciever install" which costs $75 and I didn't have an additional install, just the 6100 which was the only reciever install and was supposed to be free... however, I see and item which says "All in One HD activation credit" for $100 and I'm not sure what that is either... so maybe I'm ahead $25 or behind $75... not sure..

Either way I half expected some errors since these changes where made close to the billing cycle... I'll call Bell and talk it over and see if I can't get everything correct and understandable.

The one year free 6100 is not aprom, that's why you didn't see it advertised. The agent probably classified the offer as a retention offer even if he didn't mention leaving to another supplier.

I believe that you were charged $100 for the "Rental Certificate", this has been refunded, I think the "All in One HD activation credit", covers this.

That $75 would cover the Upgrade installation, switch installation and delivery and setup of the 6100.....

The installer is coming over on Saturday to complete this upgrade. At that time they said I will need to be present to sign the new 1 year contract. They didn't explain the install in that much detail but I new what was involved, I will need an additional lnb & switch... I'm not too worried and the actual install should be pretty straight forward (only about 30ft in total with no obstacles). As you said I did have to pay $100 for the reciever and according to the attendend I will see it refunded on my next bill, I asked him to ensure that it was on the next bill because when I move a year ago I was charged for a second reciever installation by mistake and it took them 4 months to get the credit on my bill and I had to call 3 times. He was pretty confident that I would see the credit on my next bill so we'll see.

I'll definately let you guys know how it all comes out in the wash.;)

Good deal. My 6000 cost $800. The 9200s cost $550 each. Plus, I had to pay for the N2 dish upgrade hardware. You can upgrade to an MPEG4 receiver in a year, free of charge. Who knows what my MPEG4 upgrade will cost.

The install/upgrade was supposed to be free. The CSR had mentioned that I would probably see the charge on my bill but that I would also see the credit for it at the same time.

Thanks for the clarification on the rental portion.

I'm sure it will all work out in due time... I've never had a problem with Bell getting the charges/credits corrected when I call them... it's just the amount of time and phone calls it takes to get to that point.

He wuld be abl to upgrade in a year, but free of charge???

If he wants to purchase he would have to pay the unit (not free then) and if he chooses rental he would hae to pay installation (75$)

So they are coming out with a new reciever in less than a year? Would you recommend I actually purchase the reciever then so i can obtain this new reciever for a lower cost?

As for this install, everything went great... installer was very nice, only took him about 20 min to physically do the install, about another 20min of paperwork. Now I'm just waiting to see that the bill reflects all the changes and credits correctly.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Exoressvu billing. If you read around the different threads you will see many instances of people being overcharged, undercharged, etc, myself included. I hope you find the HD worthed. Personally I thought it was a waste based on the content available.
