I recently purchased a new house, and there is an Express-vu dish stuck to the side of it. I'll likely never use Express-vu, and want to get rid of the dish. I assume it belongs to Bell. Can I get them to come and get the thing off my house?

I think they will charge you around $75
If it takes longer than an hour, then they bill you in 15 increments
If you can, take it down yourself, and sell it, or call a satellite installer from your
local paper, and ask how cheap it is to remove it, and then ask if he will give you a discount if he can have the dish

Dish is yours if you can't get the seller of house to take it with them. You take the wire and the dish down and then the bracket that holds it. Don't forget to plug any holes .

you can get rid of it easily....just ask any of your neighbours if they want it.:D

It should only be 4 bolts to remove...no big deal. Many people are always looking for another dish, you could probably sell it for $50.

You could always use a rope. You tie up one end to the antenna and the other end in the back of your car. Be sure to tie a good knot on both end. Also make sure the rope is strong enough. I think a quarter of an inch should be ok.
Have someone with a video recorder to put it on tape. When everyone is ready, put on drive and push gas pedal.
That should do the trick.

When it is done, remember to put flextra in the holes so you won't have any infiltrations. Also, if possible, post the video :-)

Have fun

One would think doing it oneself would be the easiest. Though I don't have a ladder that reaches that high ... and after pulling a bit of carpet and 6-hours spend pulling 3 different generations of underlying staples out of the hall and stairs 3 months ago - and the resulting 6-weeks physiotherapy for the ensuing tennis elbow, I've come to the conclusion it's not even necessarily cheaper to do it oneself!

Oh well, perhaps I'll phone them - might be amusing.

If you decide to do the car/rope pull, make sure to set up a cam corder, i have seen some pretty funny mishaps on America's Funniest Home Videos, and hey, you may even win $10, 000
Seriously though, I would strongly recommend not using this method, as it may launch the dish at your vehicle

Actually, with the geometry involved, involving the dish on the back of the house, the alley, and all the cars parked off the alley, I would launch the dish at all my neighbour's vehicles ... so it would be most amusing.

But alas, I can not proceed with this approach -for I don't own a video camera. :p

I have a video camera, and some rope, and a mini cooler for a six pack!
You have to drive though, I fear the structural integrity of my bumper may be comprimised if any more of the rust falls off, which is quite possible with a dish removal of this sort...

just call in the bell beavers to come out and chew on the mast until it falls off.

They might need some to use in their "Ditch the dish" ads where previous working Bell dishes get severely abused.

As long as you have no emotional attachment as the frivolity is often fatal for the poor little bugger.

If the house you purchased had a paint colour you didn't like, what would you do? Call Home Depot and ask them to replace the colour they sold the previous owners?

I'd say use common sense - remove the thing as safely as possible, and if you want an extra few bucks, put it on eBay.

You can have an Express Vu tech come and remove it if you can not do it yourself for 75$

You can get any tech remove it... If ou install Star Choice they will probably remove it...don'k if they cable compagny will do it, but you can ask.

You can remove yourself it and yes, if you wish re-sale it. Lots of people that have a cottage wants to get a dish, but when you have an existing account an purchase receiver they don't give you a dish

In an ideal world, the dish is left to make it easier for the new resident to sign on for Bev, but if it's not wanted, then it can be easily removed and re-sold.

Often to a hacker or someone involved in account splitting or the cottage user needing an extra dish.

Much preferred to have a Bev branded dish than some FTA branded one, particularly when pointing at other than 82 or 91.

The prices that I've seen posted here from Bev agents for an extra dish seem more than what you could likely buy this one for.

So whether intentionally or not, Bev indirectly supports some of the practicies that they frown upon or that may be illegal.

I'm not 100% certain how other DTH providers handle dish hardware.
I know in the past that some providers OWNED the dish, maybe that's changed.

Part of the whole issue for Bev has been their control over their own hardware, and now dishes are included.
Of course it's all moot now anyways since lots on non Bev and related hardware is able to be made workable.

Unfortunate how the provider appears to be complicit in their problem somewhat.

I've discussed with Bell my moving telephone boxes they stick on my house before, and they've acted like I was breaking the law and made it crystal clear that if the equipment says Bell then it is theirs, and not mine. I'm certainly not going to be touching equipment that has Bell written all over it. It's their dish, I don't want the thing, they can come and get it off my house.

Telephone boxes and dish are 2 different things...you can take itoff with no worry!

Is it a Dish 500? Send it to me, I need another one thanks.

BTW, it's the thing with the Dish Pro logo in the front. LNB is larger than the single sat LNB.

There is no DP or DPP in Canada yet, it is not licensed, it will be a Dish with Legacy LNBF's.
