Just try to reformat the HDD. It require same sequence from remote (posted in Internet, for sure I saw it at satelliteguys.us).

you have 9 days of programing,
and when you switch channels audio comes in first than picture in about 1 to 2 sec

Well i was sure it changed basically instantly but it seems to be different for different channels.

I never owned a 9200 so I do not know what it was like.

some stations when someone is talking i dont hear it for a split second
like the old chinese movies
but it does not happen on every station
anyone else have this problem ?

My opinion, it would be more of an issue if the unit really did shut down, or if the HDD did time out and spin down.
The big issue would be the time it takes to spin up and actually start reading and writing again. I think that would cause lots of Big complaints, from the majority of users. I suspect it would also cause a lot more failures as well.
It would have to automatically start up for software downloads, to call out for PPV events and guide downloads. It's just a whole lot easier/safer to leave it running all the time. All the equipment in every tv station i've been in runs 24/7 with at least a 10 year life expectancy.
And it uses about 40 watts.

Imangine if your tv was like your computer every time it booted up.
Turn it on, walk away and start a pot of coffee. come back and enter your login password. go poor that cup of coffee. then come back and open the application. drink some of that coffee. Then you'd finally be able to change the channel. Nope, gotta install windows updates. Reboot, start the process all over again.

I have had no (zero) audio dropouts live & recorded with my 9242 using audio through the HDMI connection and DPP equipment.

I have a second HD television connected via component and the analog audio ports, and have never heard an audio dropout from it.

I just recently switched my main television on the 9242 from using the Digital Audio Out, to using straight HDMI for both Audio and Video (after purchasing a new AVR). So far the audio dropouts have improved, but I'd like to test it a bit longer . The Terminator on CTV HD has been particularly bad, so I'm anxious to see what Monday nights episode is like.

I have yet to have a good experience with BEV technicians. I have been a subscriber for several years and never once left satisfied.

Brand new 9242, no picture or sound on HDMI. Try new cable, same thing on all three TV inputs. Phone BEV after half hour of explaining and re-explaining problem, was told that omnipresent "manager" says ongoing issue with these new PVRs call back in a couple of days. Fine.

Call back 5 days later. Explain problem AGAIN even though he read to me the notes left by the last technician. "Does it work in component?" yes (its in the notes) "Well just leave it in component then and its fine". wow... speechless. After much more "talking" went to "manager". "Yes its a known issue because it is so new so call back" "In a couple of days?" "Yes" Hangup.

Stan_Dev,
i completely understand how we are running these differently, my issue is that I believe that if the output is set to NORMAL, 16:9. The HDTV should show a 4:3 image with vertical side bars, when this is sent to the SD TVs through the Coax, I would think it should fill the 4:3 not have vertical bars, and need to be "stretched" to look proper.
I just though maybe something was wrong in my system, but apparently not.

thanks,
Rob

I used to have a 9200 receiver but had way too many issues with it. I did have the receiver replaced by Bell on 3 different occasions but the problems still remained. One of the main problems I had with the 9200 series was recording to the PVR's HDD in HD. There was almost always stutters during playback that didn't occur while viewing the show live. I do not have this issue with my9242.

The one issue that severely annoys me that exists in both the 9200 and the 9240 is standby feature that can't be shut off. Even if you select disable, the feature still stays on and puts the receiver in a standby mode after 4 hours. I have tried setting the time to 8 hours and yet it still goes into it's standby mode after 4. How stupid can their software engineers be considering they can't figure out how to make a simple standby feature work. Other than that, I am happy with my 9242.

Also got some audio drop outs. Although it only has happend a couples time since Saturday.

Anyone having issues with the sound stopping on the 9242? I had it hooked up with HDMI at first and now with component / RCA for audio. In both cases, TV1 will sometimes drop audio until I reset the receiver, and then it's fine. It'll run for hours, and then drop again. Seems to be fine if you're not mucking with the channels or PVR. In a couple of occurances of this, it really started to slow down (pressing a bunch of remote buttons had delayed responses -- ie 10's of seconds).

I'm thinking it's time to call tech support, but there's that pain of going through their diagnostic list for dummies........

More likely to be a neighbor with a similar Remote.

Try changing the Remote Address.

Failing that, add the attenuator that ships wth the receiver.

Include in that the model of Hard Drive too, as I believe this could be a factor, along with many many more variables.

Yep! I've lost my sound 3 times in the past day and a half. It's damn annoying! I was told they'd replace my receiver if the problem continues.

I've been an owner for exactly 7 days now and am not impressed at all.

My first issue was that the non-hd channels on the unit were very fuzzy. I thought it might have just been me after watching HD for an hour, so I hooked up my 3100 and did PIP. Sure enough the quality of pic was much better on the 3100.

Second issue was the fact the sound was cutting in an out on a regular basis.

This all was happening between Monday when it was installed and Tuesday. By Tuesday evening the 9242 was no longer finding the satelites and as of Wednesday none of my other receivers can get anything either. I go into reception strength and it comes in at 85% at 2-11-91 but that is it. I have spent about 10 hrs on the phone with the great support that are reading from cue cards. I missed all the football and hockey over the weekend. The earliest they can have someone out is Saturday.

Man does this suck. My dish didn't move anywhere, we are not having bad weather. Maybe a switch issue?

The other thing that I thought was very strange is the amount of sparks coming off the cables when I was disconnecting them at the help desks request, according to them this is normal.

That is only normal if there is a problem.....lol

Sounds like the switch or Power Supply is dying, or is dead now. Pull the power just to be safe. Several 9242's are failing for bad grounds.

I have a few questions about my 9242 which is hooked up to my SHARP AQUOS by HDMI and my Yamaha AV Receiver by optical, and one comment.

1. I have noticed that the sound to the AV Receiver drops out for a split second every few minutes, even with recorded shows. If I replay the program, the dropout appears in a different location. What causes this? I tried changing the digital audio encoding settings on the 9242 but still hear this problem.

2. I've spent some time setting up favourite channels for Tuner2. It would be nice if the 9242 permitted these to be cloned across to Tuner1. Re-entering them is somewhat tedious. Is there a clone feature buried in the menus for this?

3. Are there any reliable rumours as to the future function of the USB and RJ45 connectors on the 9242?

Re copying shows from an older unit, I found that it was just as easy to pick up a surplus DVD Recorder and copy the shows from my old 6200 to DVD. A bonus is that the DVD Recorder has HDMI output, so I can play my old +R DVDs on the new HD TV. My Toshiba HD-A30 does not read DVD+R. The recorder does.

I have had problems with the video and audio not syncing up on both 9200 and 9242 on tuner 1 in both units. This started when I moved and had a new install done. After many different calls and every imaginal trouble shooting they have now sent me a replacement receiver for both units.I'm tending to think it is a install problem because my 9200 worked fine at the old house.

Anybody expierience problems like this?
