Mike - thanks for the comment and suggestions. Which installation would you have double checked? I am able to receive a solid audio and video signal with the 6100 receiver w/components and received the audio and "guide" video with the 9242 receiver. It was the channel video that was either temporary/black/frozen/pixellized. The sat signal/switch is fine. The problem certainly lies with the 9242.

Peterhefer1, just curious, how do you connect the Audio on your 9242?

I was experiencing the Audio dropouts during Terminator last night. As someone else suggested, the same audio dropout was not there if I backed up and played from the buffer. I'm using the Toslink optical cable directly from my 9242 to AVR.

So I've just directly connected the 9242 to my receiver via the optical out and I'm still noticing audio dropouts, but only on certain channels such as HDNet. I was watching CBC HD for a while and I noticed there weren't any problems, so I switched back to HDNet and now it's back again. So at least I know now that the TV is not the culprit with regards to dropping the audio.

Hi,
...and I would second the opinion of the 9242 as a great machine - I have had mine going for a couple of months now - no audio drops, no weirdness at all... a vast improvment over the old 5000 series as it does the HD recording and still has the whole stop live TV that I really enjoy.
I do have the 9242 in single mode and hooked up by direct HDMI to a Sony set.

I can also confirm the audio dropouts with my 9242.

Like some other people have mentioned I will skip back 10 seconds and see if I can replicate the dropout and most times I cannot.

It is getting annoying as it is every few minutes and is a quick dropout lasting less than a second.

Just picked mine up tonight. Seems OK although no real reason to upgrade my 9200 at this point.

Anyone know what the ethernet port on this thing is for? I'm guessing its just disabled? Maybe i'll plug it in and try to hit it with my web browser or something......might have slingbox functionality.....yeah yeah dream on.

I've owned a 9242 PVR for about a month now and I've experienced the audio dropouts from the start. I have the 9242 connected into my 5.1 JVC receiver via TOSlink and it will randomly experience the audio dropouts several times per show. If I skip back and watch the same part of the show, the audio is fine but will eventually dropout again at some random point. This happens on both recorded and live shows. As a test I removed the TOSlink cable and used regular Left/Right RCA audio cables which put my receiver into ProLogic mode only and I didn't notice any dropouts. I'm pretty sure it's isolated to the Optical (digital) output from the receiver unless someone has reported the issue with analog cables as well.
Other than this issue, I haven't noticed any other issues with. My channels change fairly fast and I like the OTA feature for Digital ATSC broadcasts. I hope the audio issues can be fixed with a future firmware fix.

Since rebooting the receiver wasn't helping you, wouldn't it be just easier to hit the back 15 seconds button? The audio portions that I miss are normally there again when I go back and play that section again.

Yes, you can run a TOSlink digital audio cable from the 9242 to the receiver for the DD5.1 sound. I'm not suggesting leaving it that way, but it's a necessary step to isolate what's wrong (and where).

I think your receiver is now a Boat Anchor.

Call Express Vu, tell them that it showed the Error.

If this was prior to activation, the installer should have replaced the unit, if AFTER activation, I am sad to say he did the right thing to leave it with oyou, but should have told the truth, which is, "You now have to call Express Vu and they will ship you a replacement".

There should be a setting in the menu to put the HDD in standby after several hours of no use ?4-6h and a screensaver will pop up, but if you do anything with the remote it will come out of srandby to normal function.

The HDD should go off when the unit is turned off, but the receiver is still "ON" when its off , receiving info from the satillite etc.

My unit auto re-booted once, while i was searching all the menus to see what features i could find. Maybe i found a screen i wasn't supposed to see :)
Other than that, no problems. Keeping my fingers crossed.....

Got my 9242 setup yesterday that I picked up during the BB sale (couldn't resist that price point). I didn't think I would like the black finish but now that its sitting next to one of my 9200's I can say that the black definitely blends in better!

Of course I was dreading the activation call to Bell last night, but to my utter shock I had the receiver activated in less than 5 min. I even checked the call timer on my phone to be sure!!

Thank goodness for DPP tech though, as I now have 4 dual tuner receivers in my house. Good luck doing that with legacy hardware.

In all, I am impressed with the unit. As mentioned earlier, I like the HD labeling and the option to only record in HD. I do find my 9200 that I purchased on the first day of release to be a little snappier moving through the guide and tuning channels.

Well, I'm glad they 'fixed' that issue. I just purchased 2 of the 9242 PVRs and will hook everything up on Tuesday. I am a 1st time customer to BEV.
So is the EPG 2 days or 9 days?
Any ideas when/if the USB port will activate?
Swiper, how fast was channel change before? 0.5-1.0 sec? Was that with the 9200?

I'll have to fish an extra HDMI cable up my wall as the existing one from the HDMI out on the receiver is for the HDDVD player. I'll give that a try...thanks Mike.

Only a Show that has "HD" in the title is actually in HD.

Law And Order is not HD, HD - Law And Order IS.

The standby feature is always enabled. You can try and disable it but to quote the Bell engineer I spoke to about the annoyance that it can't actually be disabled. "It doesn't work or at least, disabling the feature doesn't actually work". Is there any ETA to fix this. Absolutely not. What does this say about Bell's software engineers in my opinion? If I posted it, I'd probably get banned for it.

Yes but to get the audio back at all. I have to reboot the receiver. In doing that I lose the portion of the show that was on while the receiver was being reset.

Maybe its my DPP44 switch or the seperator. If the weather is nice, I'll set up a legacy dish and see what happens. My buddies does the exact same thing and he is using a DPP Twin.

Maybe we need to find out the software/hardware info of the good and faulty receivers to see if we can spot a common denominator.
