No problems but I do think you should get a replacement receiver and or Switch before you kick out the 9242 for ever.....

They will give you satisfaction credits if you make the right noises.......

Is it in a closed area ? or do you have any other hardware that is producing heat around the unit ? you need to let it breath cause if it's to hot, it can act this way.

I suggest you try to cool it a bit if it's in closed area ;)

other than that I can't see .. maybe a defective unit.

You can use the HDMI port to the TV and the optical port to your receiver at the same time.

This has happened to me while recording one show and pausing live on the other tuner. If you press the info or select button on the paused live side it doesn't show that its recording (no red dot). But if you go to switch channels warning pops up.. Rather confusing..

JohnO, you haven't done your HDTV homework ;)

See the FAQ on Aspect Ratio: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=76089&highlight=FAQ+aspect+ratio

I doubt they will take it back but try by all means.

Officially, once activated, it should be ExpressVu that change the receiver.

I had a 9242 installed on Monday and its power consumption is an issue for me. Even after 4 hours I can hear the HDD spinning and the unit emits heat, even though all the lights are off on the front panel. This plus the external power injector probably adds up to 50 watts parasitic load. What is the consumption on "standby"? Does the HDD ever shut off? I find this disconcerting :(

Otherwise I am happy with it so far.

I checked mine again and it looks like it is doing it in 2 - 3 sec now.

I guess that is better than 5-7 sec but not as good as before.

It sounds like you need a replacement. The installer should not have left it that way.

ExpressVu has been kind enough to provide me with a 9242 for the next several months. It's being installed as I type this.

I have not had an ExpressVu receiver for several years (had a 3100,4700, 5100 and 6000) and have been using the Rogers SA 8300HD for the last two years so this will be a very interesting comparision as they will both be hooked up to my 1080p projector.

Just got the 9242 after 1 year with the 9200. The audio lip sync problem seems to be gone. Time will tell it is Bev you know. The audio dropouts seem to continue, are other people having this? I tend to get it on recorded programs, driving me nuts. I am not sure whether it happens on live programing as I tend to watch taped programs on Bell and watch the American system live. Any other happy customers like me in Bell land?

With the 9242 I can record two different shows at the same time while I'm watching a third one that was already recorded.

What I haven't tried is record two shows and at the same time watch two different pre-recorded shows on TV1 and another on TV2.

I'd try that but what do I do w/my audio? I have Paradigm Reference Millenia's surrounding my tv which run from my A/V rcvr. I don't have the pioneer speaker connected to the Kuro (don't want it). If I run the HDMI directly to the tv, I can't run audio outs concurrently to the A/V rcvr can I ?

thx

I've had my 9242 for a week now and can say it's a great machine the dual HD recording is great. I had a 6412 with Shaw cable and it blew big time Audio drop outs, picture problems, in the end it made me nuts.

I haven't had a single problem on my machine with any audio or video issues. I watched terminator last night on the CTV E feed and it was perfect. my signal strength is roughly 83%

I wonder if some peoples problems are related to there signal strength or just a bad machine.

The only picture issues I've noticed are the compression that people have talked about, I don't really know if it's bell ( I know bell compresses) picture quality or the feed, Terminator last night looked pretty good, American gladiator on NBC had lots of macroblocking in anything high motion i.e. graphics.

No, not at all! It just solves it temporarily until it happens again. It's a redundant process that can happen often some days. One night while watching Futurama on YTV, I ended up resetting the receiver 3 times before the half hour show was over. Other nights, I don't have it at all. It's so randon.

It took some doin' to git the 9242 hooked up and runnin'.

But finally, I'm impressed that it works! Added it to my account online and got programming right away, no waiting on hold or doing tests for CSR's.
Set up remotes, had to address the uhf's different so they don't control the wrong receiver.
The timers work, it records and plays. The OTA tuner seems slightly better than the old one.

And its black. so, i'm happy so far

I'm not sure where these excessively long channel changes are coming from. My own experience is similar to what flyfishNS posted. Admittedly not fast, but not any difference than what I've experienced in the past with my old 9200. I have my receivers connected to an SW44/SW44A combination (a 9242 and three 4100's connected).

My only problem is the audio dropouts which are inconsistent. It might only be a problem on the DD5.1 programming, not sure about that. I am curious if the audio dropouts are affecting those using only the HDMI out to their AVR for sound. I'm using the toslink optical cable to my AVR.

You can be recording 3, yes 3 shows with a 9200 or 9242 and still be watching 2 different pre-recorded shows at the same time.

You can't do that on a Rogers box.

Yes, you are wrong. ;) City rarely plays HD movies. Much discussion about that in other threads. On the positive side, City has BT in HD and Canada's only HD news.

HD channels are not HD all the time. Usually upconverted SD.

But like i said, it will playback whatever you record in the same format.

You have to set your output ratio and resolution. But once you find the best setting, you'll never have to set it again.

It's in a cubby in the entertainment unit, the front is always open, but it isn't a very large space, I can't fit my arm inside to reach the back of the unit.. I have to pull it if I need to make any connection changes(to give an idea of the space).

I'll attempt to increase the space a little to see if that helps, thanks for the suggestion :)

Hopefully it's not defective...this is the second unit I've tried. the HDMI port died on the first one. /sigh
