-Record two shows playback or watch a third.
-Record one show, watch a show, wife watch another show on another tv.

Last night, my system was faster, it change in 2-3 sec. who knows what change they did!!!

Do not contact Bell, return it to FS and get a new one. Bell will just give you a total run arround and most likly give you a refurb. Yes even at this early juncture of the 9242 life. Save youself time and a ton of hassles, back to FS!!!!

I am learning of dozens of 9242's with HDMI failures at installation and many more failing soon after. I doubt any kind of software fix will resurect them, I would have thought it was a hard ware issue.

Sigh. Because this thread is for owners to discuss the use of the unit and help each other out with any issues. The fact that Dish has a similar unit etc is not relevant to this thread. That is why the other post is there.

Nimiq - I had the unit in my posession for 14 days but it took 7 days to get an installer out. Hey I have no problems with this forum. My questions were answered very quickly. Whatever new service I go with I will be back here to ask questions in the future. I was just sick of the run around with BEV as well as Sympatico. With Sympatico my 24 mth contract ran out again for Highspeed which I was getting for $36.95 minus $5 for bundling. Pretty good deal I though but without notice my rates in Dec went up to $47.95 without any notice.

Doesn't look good so far. Just got this last Saturday. The first SD show I tried to record was blank. No picture or sound.

Cool. I'm just figuring it all out. I for one would benefit more from better integration with a computer. I'd like to be able to control my PVR remotely and stream shows for instance so I can watch remotely.

I recorded movies (theatrical releases from a couple of years ago) from Channel 803 which is supposed to be a HD channel so I would expect them to be shown in HD (Am I wrong ?) . If channel 803 is an HD channel then the stream should always be HD ? When I watch the recorded movies, they have the black bars on either side just like good old 4:3 SD material. i.e. not letterboxed, correct 4:3 aspect ratio with just black bars on the left and right. Using any of the 9242 stretch modes to fill the screen results in distorted or cropped images. Is channel 803 not HD all the time ?

Have you tried connecting the HDMI output of the 9242 directly to the television? I run my 9242 directly to my Pioneer Elite PRO 50" and have not had any of the problems your describe. Perhaps the AVR is causing the issue?

It is really annoying, mine has 1 sec audio dropouts on the HD channels from once every few minutes to 3 or 4 times per minute sometimes. All dropouts are gone upon rewind.
You would think the video may screw up being a lot of information, but not audio.
The channel change is fine here.

Yes, HD channels look awful on the TV2 output. You'd need to zoom (format buttom) to get it to fit the screen.
Stick to the SD channels for TV2 and they look just like SD should.

I gave up on TV2 output and got a reciever for each TV. :)

Ok....Everything has been installed and working mostly as expected. I was blown away by the Bell HD channel. Can't believe how clear it is....... However, when tuning into some HD channels 800, 801, 802, 803, 815, 816 etc, the picture or aspect ratio doesn't take up the entire screen and are usually cut off on the sides and sometime on the top. Same thing happens with the the digital standard stations. Is this normal for HD and DS. Currently I have a pany HD ready Tv (16x9) connected to receiver with the HDMI cable. My Tv accepts 1080i and lower signals. I have changed the aspect ratio usig the receiver i.e. 4x3#1 , 4x3#2 and 16x9. When in 16x9 the picture is not on all of the screen and when I do a partial zoom on the 4x3 it does fill the screen but some things such as wording on the bottom of the screen gets cut off. Am I doing somthing wrong? Is it because my TV is HD ready? Is there anything that i can add-on to fix this?

Once again, thanks for your help.

I was advising a friend on the 9242 (I own the 9200) and told him to rent only, do not buy, specifically because of this issue. It has plagued the 9200 (and been discussed many times in 9200 threads) for nearly a year with no fix in sight. This behaviour, if your unit is affected by it, is extremely annoying and something you never get used to ... you just have to tolerate it or change providers.

I'm not yet a 9242 owner, so will not post in this thread again. Just wanted to chime in here that BEV has known about this issue for a long time and either (a) don't know how to fix it or (b) choose not to fix it.

It's really a shame. The 9242 would be one awesome unit, and IMO worth its price, if it could simply playback HD recordings without glitches.

So I recieved my reciever yesturday. The new HD PVR 9242.

first time starting up the reciever: error 05c2 there is a serious error with the hard disk.

I mentioned it to the installer, he says "oh yeah, they always do that, give it a day and it will go away". So I wait a few hours, and call bell, it is still giving that error and channels are changing really slowly and I keep losing either picture or sound. Each reset brings it back, for a moment or two. Leaving it for several hours on the bell channel doesn't fix it. Bell says unplug it for a few hours that should fix it. I do that, now I have 2 flashing red lights.

I have a new reciever on the way, but any suggestions?

They have changed something in the software.....lol

Same V # but it is not the same.....
