Maybe I am missing a setting somewhere, but I have my 9242 hooked up to my SXRD with HDMI outputting 16:9, and am using the backfeed coax to go to my other tvs around the house. The problem is that when the 9242 sends out the SD images, the picture is smaller (bars, left and right) than a normal SD image. I assume the issue is that it upconverts to 1080i, and then back to 480i for the coax.
Is there a way to have the SD stuff pass through the unit and only HD content upconverted to 1080I? It is completely unwatchable.

My 5200 has very slow changes as well..........but do you guys and gals actually changes channels this way?

Hi,
I was wondering if the channel changing might be related somehow to signal strength of HD units. My 9242 (on it's own dish, lines, etc.) takes 2-3 seconds, and just because of all the fuss, I did an experiment. I tried switching from menu to another channel, and even recall to former channels on both of my other recievers - a 6000 and a 6100, which are both being fed from a (separate from the 9242 set-up) single dish. They both take the exact same amount of time to change - roughly 3 seconds - slightly longer delay than the 9242. Obviously in my situation all three receivers are getting roughly the same signal strength (which BTW is about 90-95%), but the 9242 does have a bit stronger signal (95-97%).
Don't know if that helps anyone, but it might prove interesting to look at signal strength as well as switch or equipment issues???

As I spoke to the Bell tech while ordering my 2d replacement 9242, I was amused to hear him castigate HDMI and attribute problems to various manufacturers not being able to standardize the HDMI signal (1.2, 1.3 etc). So, it's not Bell's fault they chose to market a receiver with an HDMI output knowing the odds of it working reliably was slim and none.

Irony is I just finished explaining the video issues existed with the component out as well.

If anyone else is having 9242 issues with video drop/freeze/pixellation please share them cos I'm sure as hell not getting any straight answers from Bell.

Mike what is it then, is it Bev and the receivers? The broadcaster? I have another system and I will have to tape Idol this week and see if the audio dropouts are present, I do not think they are. I thought I would of been rid of these with the new 9242.
Please give me your thoughts on this

I have not had any problem with delay in changing channels.
It changes instantly no 5-7 seconds.

Maybe i just got lucky.

So you agree that the 'HD Preference' option doesn't work? As I stated in my previous post, my VuPass timer only has the text 'skiing'; I don't have 'HD' text in my search term. I could set it to a specific channel as you suggest, but then I'd miss the shows on other networks (like TSN, NBC, etc), and I would need a seperate timer for each potential channel, which clutters up the timers list. If it comes to that, I'll do it.

I have the 9242 video connected directly to the television via HDMI. The 9242 TOSlink audio output is connected directly to my AVR. I would suggest you do that as well. What advantage is there to having your audio pass through the television first?

-Mike

I haven't had my 9242 long enough to confirm, but that is exactly the way I set up all my timers in my 9200 and it seems to work flawlessly.

I get the audio dropouts as well. It's definitely one of the most irritating thing with these receivers currently. Having to reboot the reciver is a bit part of what makes it irritating.

The advantage is to let the TV act as an HDMI switcher, sending a single audio out to the AVR. This is handy for people like me with older receivers that have a limited number of digital inputs, but I'm slowly realizing this is becoming less of a useful feature.

project_x: You have your receiver in Single mode. C C's receiver is in Dual mode. Dual mode would give you the aspect ratio behaviour you apparently seek, but perhaps you have other reasons not to use that mode?

My HDMI Output seems flakey. Mostly it works, sometimes it quits.
A reboot has fixed it, 4 times in the last month.

Mine has not crashed once yet. The only time i have ever rebooted it was during setup about 3.5 weeks ago. I also have it plugged into an old computer UPS. (seemed to help my old 5100)

Kuroman, I've had my 9242 connected to a 3 year old Pioneer PDP-4340 and currently a Pioneer Elite PRO-110FD. I've never had any issues with HDMI connectivity. I remember you have the 60" model but I'd be very surprised if there was a compatibility issue with just that set.

If the component outputs are giving you the same issue, the problem lies elsewhere. I would have the installation double checked. A weak signal can result in pixelation or the screen going blank periodically.

Hey All

New to the the site!

I just got a new 9242 delivered by Bell couple of days ago. I also own a 6100 and a 4100. All conneted up via an SW44.

Anyway, my 9242 is connected to a 50" Samsung Plasma (HP-T5064) via a monster cable HDMI connection. All is run through a Monster power cleaner and surge protector. The 9242 is output at 1080i to the TV.

My HD channels look great, no problems what so ever. The problem is with my SD channels. They have these white dotted vertical lines going through them, spaced equally, about 3 inches apart across the screen. This only started happening with the new 9242.

My 6100 and 4100 do not have this problem when viewing SD channels on the TV's they are connected too.

I have disconnected and reconnected every cable involved, reset the receiver, unplugged power from everything...reconnected it all and still no change.

If this problem was happening on all my recievers, then I would think it was at the SW44 switch and maybe a grounding issue with the connections at the Satellite...but it's only with the 9242 receiver.

Please Help!!!...thought I would try all you experts in the forum before phoning Bell and getting put on hold forever...

Thanks in advance!

It looks like the PVR is recording all skiing events because there is no episode number attached to the shows. The pvr is probably looking for this episode data to ensure it's not creating duplicate recordings. I suspect this feature works quite well with Series that have episode numbers but skiing events don't have episodes. Nevertheless, I'll bring this up with the software group to see if the software can be tweeked.

FYI for 9242 owners- My short conversation with the bell rep.

Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with Bell.
Bell: Hello! Thank you for visiting bell.ca, how may I help you today?
Me: I see that you have a new HD PVR plus how is this different from my current 9200 PVR
Bell: I'll be pleased to help you with this.
Bell: The 2 main differences are that the 9242 model doesn't absolutely require a HDTV and it has a 200 recording capacity.
Me: I also see that it has an ethernet and usb connection in the back. Are these functional? Can I connect it to my computer?
Bell: No, so far, they are useless. Our IT department is working on it for possible future use.
Me: I know that the US version allows for connection to a pocket Dish player, any plans for this in Canada?
Bell: Unfortunately nothing is revealed so far or any stipulations.
Me: Is the rental on the new unit the same as the out going 9200?
Bell: Yes, it's the same price (20$/month).
Me: Thank you. You have been very helpful. Make sure you tell your boss we all want the ability to use those connections in the back to play on portable players. It would be nice to play my shows on ipod video or PSP like the americans can.
Bell: I'll forward your request to the concerned department.
Bell: My pleasure! Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?
Me: thanks, no you have answered all my questions. Bye
Belll: It's been a pleasure helping you out today! Thank you for choosing Bell and for using bell.ca for your self-serve solutions. Have yourself a great day!
Your chat representative has ended the chat session. We thank you for using this service and we hope we have answered all your questions.

Does anyone get intereference with their UHF signal from electronics. I seem to have been getting it from my laptop which was upstairs near the PVR. I was watching on my 1st set and was not able to record onto TV2 so I went to check that set because I thought it was off.

I turn it off and 3 seconds later it comes back on, then goes to guide, then switches to another program etc... I'm worried that my laptop might end up ordering a PPV movie since the signals seem to be random (ie. not just related to one function but a combination - down, enter, cancel, down and so on....)

I turned off my laptop and it all went away. Wondering if it's the wireless or the laptop itself. Anyone else have this?
